A lot has changed since the days of Seaport Family Practice, but one thing hasn’t: the dedication these physicians have shown to their patients, coworkers, and community year after year. ❤️

And talk about a longtime team — Dr. Nelson’s nurse, Marcie, has been by his side since he joined the practice 25 years ago! Now THAT deserves a round of applause. 👏

☀️July is UV Safety Month: Protect Your Skin!

Spending time outdoors is one of the best parts of summer, but protecting your skin from harmful UV rays is just as important. Too much sun exposure can increase your risk of sunburn, premature skin aging, and skin cancer.

Here are a few simple ways to stay safe in the sun:

☀️ Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and reapply every 2 hours

🧢 Wear a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and lightweight protective clothing

🌳 Seek shade during peak sun hours (10am-4pm)

🔍 Check your skin regularly for new or changing spots or moles

😬 Tick bites are common during the summer, but knowing what to do can help protect your health.

If you find a tick, remove it promptly with fine-tipped tweezers by pulling straight out with steady pressure. 🚫 Avoid twisting the tick or using home remedies like petroleum jelly or a lit match.

🧼 Wash the area with soap and water afterward, and consider saving the tick in a sealed bag if your healthcare provider needs to identify it.

Keep an eye on the bite over the next few weeks. Contact your healthcare provider if you develop a rash, fever, flu-like symptoms, or if the tick was attached for more than 24 hours.

✅ The best prevention is checking yourself, your children, and your pets for ticks after spending time outdoors. Wearing long sleeves and using insect repellent can also help reduce your risk.
