My role is to provide comfort, offer guidance, support both mom and dad, and to respect the space and medical team

Sometimes that looks like hip squeezes.

Sometimes that looks like stepping back.

If you want an unmedicated birth, preparation matters.

Not just a Pinterest birth plan.
Not just hoping for the right nurse on the right shift.
Not just crossing your fingers that your provider “lets” you labor naturally.

Preparation looks like:
• Choosing a provider who is actually skilled in supporting physiological birth
• Taking a quality childbirth education class
• Hiring a doula
• Understanding informed consent and your options
• Watching normal birth instead of only medicalized birth portrayals
• Surrounding yourself with people who believe birth is something women are capable of

Birth is physical, mental, emotional, and absolutely environmental.

Your provider matters.
Your support team matters.
Your education matters.
Your environment matters.

The women who prepare for birth differently often experience birth differently.

This is how we improve birth outcomes.

Babies don’t just cry when they’re hungry; they give cues before that.

You’ll notice that their fists are clenched, they turn their head and open their mouth toward your breast or the bottle, and also sucking on their hands.

Crying is actually a “late” hunger cue.

Learning the signs makes feeding so much easier for everyone involved. 🤍

“you don’t get a trophy for going unmedicated”
blah. blah. blah.

good thing I wasn’t doing it for a trophy… or for you.

every birth is raw. every birth is powerful. every birth is a blessing, whether it’s medicated, unmedicated, c-section, or somewhere in between.

I didn’t need outside praise to get through it. I’ve done this before and I still chose to show up for myself again in the same way.

but let’s be clear..there’s a difference between not understanding someone’s choice and trying to diminish it.

you don’t have to do what I did.
but you also don’t get to discredit it just because you wouldn’t.

we can honor all births without tearing any down 🤍

Education changes outcomes. PLEASE educate yourself when you are pregnant...even BEFORE you get pregnant. Don't walk into your prenatal visits expecting your provider to educate you. Consider taking childbirth education classes.....in person! Read all the books. Do not get your info from tiktoc! Do not get your info from traumatized mamas! AND....hire a doula.
