During labor, we will often have the laboring woman sit on what we call the “dilation station” aka the toilet. This position is great for helping labor to progress especially if labor has stalled or is taking a bit longer. This position also helps by allowing gravity to work with mother to pull that baby down. It may even provide relief, allowing mama to get a little rest in between contractions. The baby is able to more easily navigate the pelvis, which means that you’ll meet your baby sooner rather than later. You can do this whether you’re having a hospital birth or homebirth. Wherever there’s a toilet, you have a dilation station.
Have you used the dilation station before? How did it impact your labor/birth experience? Give other expectant moms some inspiration. 👇🏾
