**An important update for parents about childhood vaccines**
You may have heard that the federal government recently made significant changes to the childhood vaccine schedule.
We want our patients to know that **our recommendations have not changed.**
The new federal schedule removed several long-standing vaccines—including hepatitis A, hepatitis B, rotavirus, influenza and meningococcal vaccines—from the list routinely recommended for all children, instead placing some into “high-risk” or individual decision-making categories.
These changes were not prompted by new evidence showing that these vaccines are unsafe or ineffective, and they were made outside the traditional vaccine-review process.
For that reason, both the **American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP)** and the **American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)** have published their own 2026 immunization schedules and continue to recommend the routine childhood vaccines supported by decades of safety and effectiveness data.
At Brashear Family Medical, we will continue to follow evidence-based recommendations from our major medical professional organizations and recommend the vaccines that we believe best protect our patients.
We understand that parents may have questions—and we welcome those conversations. Our job is not simply to tell you what to do, but to help you understand the evidence so you can make informed decisions about your family’s health.
We’ll include links in the comments below to the AAFP and AAP recommendations for anyone who would like to read more.
**Bottom line: the government schedule changed. The science behind these vaccines did not.**
