Thank you so much to our Molokai Drugs, Inc. customers, patients, and employees. We also cannot forgot our employees' 'ohana for their continued support. We could not serve Molokai and her people without all of you! 🌺

Beautiful Molokai photo cards now in stock! 🌺✨🌴 We love Marge Y-B’s photo cards of life from Halawa to Maunaloa! They are the only cards we have that have photographs on the front AND back and a “sepia”-tone interior photograph. We handwrite these cards to family and friends on the mainland and these photos make them “homesick” 😢 for Molokai.

We have six designs of these very unique 📸 cards so come and visit us at the drugstore before they are gone!

MEET OUR STAFF AND SAY HI - For the past 18 months, we have blessed to have a “relief pharmacist” with strong family ties to Molokai. Deandra Viluan, PharmD, was born and raised on Maui and graduated from H.P. Baldwin High School in 2008. In 2017, she earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy in Hilo. We first met Deandra on one of her visits to Molokai in 2016!

Growing up, Deandra spent ALL of her summers on Molokai with her late grandmother, Consolacion “Amor” Viluan, where she developed a deep connection to the island and strong appreciation for her people. The three Viluan sons (Genaro, Ray, and Richard) were raised in Maunaloa then the family moved to Ranch Camp, where they still have a home. Her uncle, Richard Viluan, and Frank Maniago also worked together from 1990-1994 at the old Molokai Drugs’ location. Her family is also the Gamits and the Magdirilas are her “God siblings.”

Deandra is a proud third-generation Viluan to serve the island of Molokai—following in the footsteps of her grandmother as a nutritionist, her father (Ray Viluan) as a Honda recall technician, and herself as a pharmacist.

Deandra now lives on Oahu with her husband, Ray, their two fur babies, and a cat. In her free time, she enjoys camping, traveling, and watching sunsets. She also hopes to visit all of the U.S. National Parks one day and has explored 11 so far.

“I feel very honored and appreciative that I get the opportunity to come home and serve a community I hold dear to my heart. Molokai has given me so much more than priceless summers with my grandma. Molokai has given me values of community and ‘ohana. It is truly my pleasure to be of service to you all.”

This week, we celebrate Janelle Lani Tancayo's 10th anniversary of working at Molokai Drugs, Inc. She is also the third member of her immediate family to work at the drugstore. Her late mother, Cynthia Alcon Lani, and her sister, Jocelyn Lani, both worked here.

Born and raised on Molokai, Janelle is more than an employee; she is part of our island community. We also appreciate her driving and delivering our products. Janelle is one of our two main delivery drivers (the other is Frank Maniago, Jr.). She takes her job seriously and enjoys helping our customers.

If you see her driving, please give her a wave or a shaka. She would love it!

MEET OUR "MOMPRENEUR"—Earlier this year, one of our employees was eating a PB & Kekoa Butter sandwich in our employee kitchen. She suggested to Hulu, “We should sell this at the drugstore.” One phone call and we had our first delivery of Kekoa Butters (lilikoi)! “Mompreneur” and Molokai girl, Lanre Kekoa, started her business to help support her family and now makes a variety of flavors. She now sells her butters at the Molokai Farmers Market; MKK Grab & Fly; Haleola Essentials; Maunaloa General Store; and Molokai Drugs. Check out this Molokai-made product. Very delicious on crepes, ice cream, pancakes, toast and waffles, too! 🌺

“KUMUSTA, TITA!” (Hello, Aunty!)…

We are so fortunate to have Tricia Aguirre now working at our community pharmacy. She started at the front register but we asked if she could work in the "back" pharmacy. It’s been a long time since we had a fluent Ilocano speaker. Now we have one! Tricia also speaks a little bit of Tagalog. She is a proud Filipina and values staying connected to her roots and her culture. Being able to speak English, Ilocano, and Tagalog helps her “stay close to family traditions and communicate with members of the local community.”

A Molokai High alumna, Tricia was raised between Washington state and Molokai. When she isn’t at work, she is at the beach with her beautiful family. We are nīele (nosy in Hawaiian) and will ask her children what they ate for breakfast and lunch at Kualapu'u Conversion Charter School (we all are jealous of the great meals served there). Her keiki are very respectful and love the students, teachers, and staff at our island’s only charter school.

I asked her why she works at Molokai Drugs: “At Molokai Drugs, I am able to support and care for the community. Whether through a friendly conversation, helping someone find what they need, or simply being there for others, I take pride in trying to make a positive difference in people's lives every day.” 🌺
