☀️ Monday Morning Reflection

"This quote reminds us that a dream doesn't have to be something huge or extraordinary. Sometimes a dream is very simple.

For someone in hospice, a dream might be seeing the ocean one more time. It might be having the whole family together for dinner. It might be holding a new grandchild. It might be going fishing, eating one favorite meal, hearing a favorite song, celebrating one more birthday, or sitting outside in the sunshine with the people they love.

And one of the greatest privileges of hospice is that we sometimes get to help make those dreams possible.

We get to listen for the things our patients and families hope for, and then sometimes we get to help turn those hopes into memories.

A special experience doesn't change the diagnosis. It doesn't add years to someone's life. But it can add something incredibly important to the time they have left: meaning, joy, connection, and a memory that their family can carry with them long after we're gone."

When our patients share a special request, we do everything we can to make it happen.

Yesterday, George had one simple wish - to go fishing. Thanks to the kindness of our volunteer, Kelly, we were able to take George out to the pond at our Inpatient Facility for a relaxing afternoon by the water. 🎣

Alongside his wife, George enjoyed a peaceful moment with the simple joy of casting a line. These moments become cherished memories, and we're honored to help make them possible!

"They took care of everything. During one of the hardest times of my life, they made sure we weren't alone."

Nina Arnett, who serves on our Board of Directors, has a long connection with Hospice of the Panhandle, starting in 1980 when her mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Years later, he husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Her story is a testament to our legacy, built on compassionate, high-quality care for our community.

At Hospice of the Panhandle, it is our privilege to honor the wishes that matter most to our patients. Sometimes, the simplest moments create the most meaningful memories!

Last Thursday, our incredible Transport Team members, Victoria Hough and Ashley Rogers, helped make a special wish come true by taking former horse jockey Larry to Charles Town Race Track, where he was able to watch a race and reminisce about his time as a jockey.

Experiences like these remind us that hospice care is about so much more than medical care - it's about preserving dignity, celebrating life's passions, and creating moments of joy.

We are so grateful to have been part of Larry's special day! 🏇

Today, our team came together for our in-person Monday Morning Meeting - a time to connect, celebrate, and start the week with purpose.

Staff were welcomed with great music and a delicious breakfast prepared by our talented chefs. Senior leadership shared organizational updates and words of encouragement, followed by an inspiring reflection from one of our chaplains, Wayne Clark.

We're grateful for opportunities like these that strengthen our team, celebrate our shared mission, and remind us that the compassionate care we provide begins with each other! 🩵

At Hospice of the Panhandle, we're reminded every day that healing comes in many forms. While we can't change yesterday, we can help create space for peace, reconciliation, and meaningful moments today.

Whether it's offering forgiveness, sharing words left unsaid, or simply being present, these acts can bring comfort and hope when needed most.

As you begin this new week, may you find opportunities to extend grace to yourself and to others!

We are SO EXCITED to celebrate one of our incredible volunteers, Mary Shipe Duke, for being recognized as a Girl Scouts Nation's Capital Women of Distinction honoree! 💚

May has dedicated more than 50 years to educating children, mentoring future educators, and serving our community. For the past 36 years, she has also generously volunteered with Hospice of the Panhandle, sharing her compassion and commitment with our patients and families.

She also appeared on WEPM & WCST The Panhandle Network to speak about this honor.

Congratulations, Mary, on this well-deserved honor! Thank you for the lasting impact you have made on our community and everyone you've touched along the way!

At Hospice of the Panhandle, we are so grateful to be a part of moments that bring joy to our patients. ❤️

We had the honor of coordinating a special visit with the 167th Airlift Wing and veteran Thomas through our We Honor Veterans program. Warden shared memories and stories with the two service members.

Thomas attended Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, Beckley College, and West Virginia University before being accepted into a cadet program and fulfilling his dream of being a fighter pilot.

Thank you Harmony at Martinsburg for helping us coordinate this special moment and for being an incredible community partner! Thank you to the 167th Airlift Wing - West Virginia Air National Guard for helping us make this possible.
