Most people think speech therapy is only for children who have trouble saying sounds—but there are actually two important parts: speech and language.
✨ Speech = how sounds are produced (how clearly a child talks)
✨ Language = how a child understands and uses words
Some children may be easy to understand but struggle with language (expressing ideas or understanding directions). Others may have strong language skills but be difficult to understand due to speech sound errors.
🚩 Red flags to watch for:
• Not combining words by age 2
• Difficulty following directions
• Limited vocabulary for their age
• Trouble answering simple questions
• Limited eye contact, joint attention or imitation skills
• Speech that is hard to understand for their age
If you’re noticing any of these, speech therapy can help support both communication and confidence 💛
