Michael Joseph Hayes III

Michael Joseph Hayes III, a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away surrounded by his devoted family at his home on Granite Lake on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the age of 63. Michael had courageously battled glioblastoma for nearly four years. As one friend recently remarked, he was an outlier in every sense of the word. Not only in beating the initial prognosis more than three times over but also in how he continued to stoically push through the hardest days. Michael’s peaceful passing came just over one year after his wife of 41 years, Susan (Randall) Hayes, passed in June 2025.

Michael was a man who found purpose in working hard, taking risks, and caring for those he loved. He enjoyed sharing stories; a drive down any local road would always feature anecdotes about a memorable vehicle extrication or connection to a good friend or customer. Driving was one of his favorite activities; whether for work or pleasure, he enjoyed motorcycles, boats, snowmobiles, and cars and trucks of all types. His adventuresome spirit led to many escapades with treasured friends, including automotive-related shenanigans in high school and boating in Boston Harbor in more recent times. Michael was loved by many for his sharp one-liners that could always make you crack a smile, even at the most challenging moments. He was deeply proud of the life he and Susan built for their family.

Born on September 10, 1962, to Judith and Michael J. Hayes Sr. in New York City, Michael was raised on Long Island with his five brothers and one sister before the family moved to Stoddard, NH after visiting the area during summer vacations. His teenage years were full of adventures and early entrepreneurial activities that often involved something with a motor. He graduated from Keene High School in 1980 and then earned an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Services - Truck & Diesel Mechanics from the New Hampshire Technical Institute in 1982.

Michael met his future wife, Susan, when he was dispatched to disband a party at one of his mother’s apartment buildings in Keene and Susan then later asked him to work on her Chevy Nova. They were married on July 9, 1983, in Keene and immediately began to build and plan for their life together. Michael was working long hours running the shop for Cheshire Transportation in Brattleboro while renovating a foreclosed home in Keene. They quickly started a family together, welcoming their two children, Kelly and Mikey, to the world. Soon after, they moved to Stoddard, NH, where Michael and Susan started Hayes Car & Truck Repair, which continues to serve the local community today. In 1987, Michael and Susan purchased a home on Granite Lake in Munsonville, NH, their beloved homestead of 39 years. Granite Lake was a wonderful place to raise their young family as they spent time boating, snowmobiling, and hosting gatherings for many family members and lifelong friends.

As their children grew up and found their own partners and married, Michael and Susan warmly welcomed Scott and Katie into their family’s life, greatly enjoying time spent whether at Granite Lake, their children’s own homes, or on many outings. When Michael received his life-changing diagnosis in 2022, Susan left her nursing career and their family rallied around him to ensure that he had the best care possible. Michael had many meaningful visits from family, friends, and neighbors throughout this time - finding great joy in sharing stories, often over a round of his favorite beer, Guinness Extra Stout. His family will forever cherish memories made on a trip to Ireland in December 2023 where he enjoyed his Guinness straight from the source. In the final months of his life, after enduring multiple surgeries and rigorous rounds of treatment, Michael proudly became a grandfather with the arrival of Mikey and Katie’s son, William Michael Hayes.

Hayes Car & Truck Repair was an important part of Michael’s life. Building the business from the ground up in the 1980s, Michael’s strong work ethic and respected mechanical expertise led to its growth as a trusted local garage offering many services including reliable repairs, commercial tire service, emergency towing, and heavy duty recovery for all sorts of vehicles. Michael was well-known for being very resourceful with the humble fleet of tow trucks he maintained over the years - always getting the job done, whether it was pulling a neighbor back onto the road during a snowstorm or a tractor-trailer jack-knifed across Route 9. He built a community of loyal customers and a professional network that he greatly cherished.

Michael served as a board member of the New Hampshire Towing Association for a number of years and was also a founding board member of the New Hampshire Towmasters. He enthusiastically participated in many trainings and completed WreckMaster certifications to continue developing his skills with the added bonus of seeing his towing friends. His children have many memories of riding shotgun with Michael on tow truck calls and the family’s annual trips each May to the New Hampshire Towing Association’s Tow Show at Hampton Beach.

Michael is dearly missed by his loving children, daughter Kelly Hamshaw and her husband, Scott, of Bristol, VT., and son Michael C. Hayes and his wife, Kaitlyn, of Keene and their son William Michael Hayes. He is also survived by his siblings, Matthew and his wife, Janis, of Croton-on-Hudson, NY; Elizabeth Lazzaro of Hampton, NH; Casey Hayes and his partner, Jen, of Stoddard, NH; and Andrew Hayes and his wife, Jess, of Marlow, NH along with his mother-in-law, Irmgard Randall of Keene, NH, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Michael was predeceased by both of his parents, Judith and Michael, and his brothers Kevin Hayes and Brian Hayes.

Michael’s family is deeply grateful for the expert and compassionate care he received from the Neuro-Oncology Team and the 3K Infusion Center nurses at the Dartmouth Cancer Center in Lebanon, NH. The staff from Home Healthcare, Hospice & Community Services (HCS) brought much comfort and support to Michael and his children in his final weeks.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Cheshire Family Funeral Home, 44 Maple Ave, Keene NH. A celebration of life and burial will be held at a future date.

Lisa A. Chalifour

Lisa A Chalifour, 64, of Keene, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at her home on July 18th, 2026, surrounded by the love of her devoted sons.

Born on June 1st, 1962, in Keene, Lisa was the daughter of Karl Boes and Virginia Boes. She was raised in Keene, where she built a life centered on family, kindness and compassion.

Lisa was a loving and devoted mother to her sons, Neil Livengood III and Nathan Livengood, who were the pride and joy of her life. She was known for her generous heart, caring nature, and unwavering willingness to help others. Whether through a thoughtful gesture, a listening ear, or simply being present, Lisa made those around her feel loved and supported.

She found great joy in traveling, discovering new places, and shopping for the people she loved. Above all, she cherished the time she spent with her family and created countless memories that will be treasured forever.

Lisa was predeceased by her father Karl Boes, her mother Virginia Irene Boes, and her brother Karl Boes. She is survived by her beloved sons, Neil Livengood III and Nathan Livengood; her brother Gary Boes; her sister Alice Sheldon and her husband Wayne, and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Bural will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 29th, 2026, at Mountain View Cemetery in Troy New Hampshire. All are warmly welcomed to attend.

Eugene Martineau

Eugene Martineau, 81, of Manchester New Hampshire, passed away on July 1st, 2026, surrounded by his son and the caring staff at the Alpine Healthcare Center in Keene, New Hampshire.

Born in Rumford, Maine, on November 2, 1944, Eugene was one of fourteen children. He graduated from Rumford High School in 1965 and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War as a civil engineer and carpentry specialist. After his military service, Eugene built a life rooted in determination and perseverance, eventually becoming the proud owner of Martineau Trucking.

Eugene and his beloved wife, Rosemary Elaine Martineau, shared many years together, raising their family in New Hampshire before retiring together to Florida. Following Rosemary’s passing, Eugene returned to New Hampshire, finding comfort in familiar places. Though he worked hard throughout his life, he found his greatest joy in life's simple pleasures. Whether he was in the woods deer hunting with his son Todd, fixing something that needed repairing, or listening to country music and the timeless songs of the 1950s, Eugene embraced every moment. New Year's Eve was one of his favorite celebrations, where he could always be found laughing, dancing, and welcoming another year surrounded by family and friends. He was a man who genuinely loved people and lived each day with gratitude for the ordinary moments that make life extraordinary.

A good man leaves his mark not through grand gestures, but through the lives he touches. Eugene's legacy is found in the family he loved the friendships he treasured, the country he served, and the countless simple moments he filled with laughter, kindness, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosemary Elaine Martineau; his son, Dean Martineau; and his cherished granddaughter, Jolene Martineau. His sisters Jeanette Knox, Irene Sinclair, and Pauline Blanchard; his brothers, Albert Martineau, Maurice Martineau, Henry Martineau, Donald "Babe" Martineau, Joseph "Emil" Martineau, Raymond "Curly" Martineau, and Marcel "Beechie" Martineau.

He is survived by his son, Todd Martineau; his sisters, Joanne Morin, Yvette Leblanc, his grandchildren, Kevin McDermott, Nathan Martineau, and Bradley Martineau; and his great-grandchildren, Dylan McDermott, Jolene McDermott, Landon Martineau, and Callahan Martineau, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Eugene will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife and granddaughter at Forest Hill Cemetery in Derry, New Hampshire on Saturday, August 29th at 11:00am, all are warmly welcome to attend.

Theresa Hastings

Theresa "Terri" "Momma T" Hastings

November 19, 1936 - July 10, 2026

Theresa "Terri" Hastings, a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, and longtime resident of Dublin, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, at the age of 89 in Lakeland, Florida.

Born to Connie Gilman and Louis Gilman, Terri lived a life centered on family, hard work, and the community she loved. She shared a wonderful life with her husband, Bryan Hastings, and together they built a family and a business they were proud of. Bryan passed away in 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.

For 40 years, Terri and Bryan owned and operated Hastings Real Estate in Dublin, helping families find homes throughout the beautiful Monadnock region. They especially loved spending time at their lake house on Howe Reservoir, a place that brought Terri peace and many happy memories throughout her life.

After Bryan's passing, Terri moved to Florida to live with her youngest son, Michael Kay, where she remained until recently moving into long-term care.

Terri is survived by her three sons, Avery, Scott, and Michael, step-sons Bryan III, Devin and by her seven grandchildren, Christian, Adam, Corey, Jeremy, Chase, Thomas and Harry all of whom she loved dearly.

She was one of seven children born to Connie and Louis Gilman. She is survived by her sisters, Denise, Jeannette, and Beverly, and her brothers, Kevin and Lenny. She was preceded in death by her brother, Sonny Gilman.

Terri will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, and the love she had for her family. She touched many lives through her years in real estate, but those who knew her best will remember her most for the time she spent with family and the happiness she found at the lake she loved.

Pauline L. Po***ck

Pauline L. Po***ck 96, a longtime resident of Keene passed away on July 11, 2026. She passed peacefully in the familiar surroundings of her home with the love of her family near after a very short period of declining health.

Pauline was born on February 2, 1930, in New Castle, PA. The only child of Victor and Lydia (Matson) Santala. As a young girl the family moved to Harrisville, NH. As her parents only spoke their native language of Finnish, Pauline learned the English language when she started school. She went on to graduate from Peterborough High School, class of 1948.

On August 26, 1951, Pauline exchanged vows with Wendell Po***ck at the First Congregational Church of Peterborough. They were married with family and friends in attendance and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary just prior to Wendell's passing in 2021.

They moved to Keene in 1953 for Wendell's new position as of fice manager for Bobbin and Shuttle Company. Pauline found an of fice position with Kingsbury Machine until the birth of their first daughter and then she enjoyed many years being at home raising her family. She returned to the work force as the office manager for Keene's MLS of fice, A multiple listings service for real estate brokers. Retiring from that role in 1988.

She and Wendell enjoyed dancing and joined the Monadnock Squares Club of Keene. Dancing provided them the opportunity to make many new and lifelong friends. They were active members of the club and traveled throughout New England to attend dances. She was an avid collector of antique bottles and spent many hours in the woods looking for cellar holes to excavate bottles for her large collection. They looked forward to wintering in Daytona Beach Shores, FL, which they enjoyed doing for 30 years.

Mrs. Po***ck is survived by her children and their spouses: Brenda McCormack and her husband, Steven; Nancy Watkins and her husband Geary and Brian Po***ck all of Keene. Three grandchildren: Casey McCormack, Meghan

Dubriske and Molly McCormack. Two great grandchildren: Carson Dubriske and Lacey Dubriske. Pauline is predeceased by her husband Wendell and her daughter Bonnie Po***ck.

In keeping with Pauline's wishes there were no calling hours. A private graveside service was held in the family lot at Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Ave. Keene, NH. William "Bill" G. Hasbrouck

William “Bill” G. Hasbrouck, 90, a resident of Gilsum and formerly of New York, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2026, with loving family near.

Born to the late Hazel (Meyer) and John E.R. Hasbrouck on October 7, 1935, he grew up in New City, NY. Bill was educated and graduated from Congers High School class of 1953. After graduation Bill continued his formal education, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible and Missions from Providence Barrington College in Providence, RI.

On August 30, 1958, William exchanged vows with the love of his life, Edith J. Ball. They had a simple ceremony at Sturtevant Chapel in Keene with family and friends celebrating their union which lasted nearly 68 years.

Bill started a plumbing and heating business, Hasbrouck Associates, in the early 1970s and operated it until he retired in 2000. He was also the owner and operator of Hasbrouck Apartments in Rindge.

Bill was a man of many talents and interests who found joy in working with his hands and spending time with those he loved. He had a lifelong passion for mechanical repairs and woodworking and was always willing to lend a hand or tackle a new project. Bill especially enjoyed tractor pulling, a hobby that brought him great joy and fond memories. Family was at the center of Bill’s life. He cherished every opportunity to attend family events and treasured the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness.

Bill was a faithful member of Sturtevant Chapel, where he regularly warmly welcomed others as a church greeter. He served in several offices over the years and was always willing to lend a hand when needed. He also dedicated 30 years of service to the town of Gilsum, serving as a member of the Board of Selectmen, and served many years on the Budget committee for Monadnock school district. His commitment to his community reflected his generous spirit, strong work ethic, and desire to make a positive difference in the lives of those around him.

Bill will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering dedication to his family, church and community, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.

Mr. Hasbrouck is survived by his beloved wife, Edith Hasbrouck of Gilsum, their four children, Thomas R. Hasbrouck and wife, Lois of Gorham, ME., Joyce V. Hasbrouck of Accomac, VA, Sally A. Ellington and husband, Donald of Acworth, GA., and Peter W. Hasbrouck and wife, Caryn of South Portland, ME. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. William was predeceased by his parents, and his three brothers, Richard, James and Stephen.

The calling hour will take place at Sturtevant Chapel, from 9:30 – 10:30 am on Saturday, August 29, 2026. A celebration of life service will follow at 11:00 am. The Chapel is located at 15 Washington St. Keene, NH. 03431. A private burial will follow in the family lot at Centennial Cemetery in Gilsum, NH. Barbara Lauren

Barbara Lauren, 79, of Keene, NH, passed away peacefully on July 1st, 2026, surrounded by the love of her brother, David, and the caring staff at Covenant Living of Keene.

Born on May 22, 1947, in New York City, NY, Barbara was the beloved daughter of Sidney Lauren and Miriam Kornblith Lauren. She was raised in a home that valued education, thoughtful conversation, and a deep respect for their Jewish faith. Barbara carried these core values throughout her life with reverence for learning, a commitment to justice, and a profound appreciation for history, culture, and the enduring strength of community.

Barbara's pursuit of knowledge was remarkable. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Smith College before completing a Ph.D. in English at Yale University. She later earned her Juris Doctor from Georgetown University, bringing together a love of literature, language, and the law in a career devoted to higher education.

Throughout Barbara’s distinguished professional life, she held positions of much responsibility and influence. She served as Assistant to the President of Middlebury College; Assistant Dean at Boston University School of Law; and she taught English at Bowdoin College in Maine. Whether guiding students, supporting institutional leadership, or fostering academic excellence, Barbara was admired for her intelligence, integrity, and thoughtful leadership. She was active in The Torch Club, a professional organization of multi-disciplinary members. She believed deeply in the transformative power of education and dedicated her life to advancing it.

Outside her professional accomplishments, Barbara found endless joy in reading. Her shelves were filled with biographies, works of political science, and novels that challenged and inspired her. She remained an engaged observer of the world throughout her life, faithfully following current events, and ever eager to understand the complexities of society, history, and public life.

Among Barbara's greatest gifts was the love she gave to her family. As a girl, she patiently taught her younger brother, David, how to read, using ‘Dick and Jane’ books -- a simple act that foretold a lifetime of generosity, encouragement, and belief in the power of knowledge. To David she was far more than a sister; she was his teacher, mentor, confidante, and one of life's greatest blessings. She was in every sense a marvelous ‘big sister.’

Barbara will be remembered not merely for her exceptional academic achievements, but for the grace with which she developed and used her knowledge. She had a brilliant mind and her strong character was without pretense. She possessed a quiet dignity and an insatiable curiosity that enriched her conversations and each life that she touched. Barbara believed that understanding the world was both a privilege and a responsibility, and she lived accordingly. She is survived by one brother, David Lauren and his wife, Brenda Lyons. A small graveside memorial service will be held at the Village Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg, MA.

Natalie Kennison

Natalie L. Kennison, 93, of Keene, New Hampshire, passed away on June 25th, 2026, in the comfort of her home.

Natalie was born on August 5th, 1932, in Summit, New Jersey, to the late Charles Wesley "Wes" Milburn and Natalie (Clement) Milburn. She graduated high school in Wellesley, Mass before moving to St. Johnsbury, VT. She eventually settled in the Monadnock Region.

Natalie loved to travel, and her globetrotting adventures took her to Europe, Asia and even Antarctica. She liked to paint and was an accomplished artist, both acrylics and watercolors. She was a gourmet chef, and instilled in all her children the love of good food and the enjoyment of travel.

She adored her Siamese cats, and was active in raising, breeding and showing cats. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, working at the church thrift store. In her later years she also lived in Colorado and North Carolina, where she was active in her local church and volunteered at the church store. She eventually returned to Keene, where she also enjoyed bird watching.

Natalie was predeceased by her husband, Wayne A. Kennison.

Natalie is survived by her three children, Thomas Dill of Littleton, CO, Debra Dill of Fairfax Station, VA and Mark Dill of Troy; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; as well as a half-sister Gretchen Guerra, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Alden Gordon Powers

Alden Gordon Powers, 75, of Wi******er New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, at the Applewood Center in Wi******er.

Born on December 9th, 1950, in Keene, he was the son of the late Wilmer James Powers and Mildred Mary Ann (Gillender) Powers. Alden was also predeceased by his beloved wife Shirley (Tatro) Powers; his daughter Mallory Powers; and his brother James Powers.

At the age of 17, Alden proudly enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War as a truck driver. His service reflected the quiet determination and strong work ethic that would remain with him.

Throughout his life, he carried a deep appreciation for the outdoors. A certified “Rock Hound” and wanderer at heart, Alden could usually be found exploring the woods and trails of New Hampshire. Whether hiking a familiar path on Mt. Grace or wandering in search of native mushrooms, he enjoyed the simple adventure of being outside. He had a knack for spotting natural treasures others might miss and found joy in sharing his knowledge and discoveries with his family and friends.

Alden is survived by his son, Jeremy Powers and his wife Naarah; his daughters Shannon Powers and Kaitlyn Powers; his stepson Jason Taylor; stepdaughter Vicki Taylor, and his sisters Irene Ethridge and Margaret Fullman; his grandkids; Chelsea Taylor, Clarissa Carlson (Jared), Cheyenne Tuller (Trae), Chantelle Denico, Isabelle Hubbard, Thomas Hubbard, Wesson Taylor, Annalee Taylor, Audrey Powers and Kaia Powers; as well as his great-grandchildren; Nealon Brown III, Summer Brown, Wesley Carlson, Camden Rebaudo, September Tullar, Marcello Tullar, Khaisyn Cooper, Vana Gerry, and Arayya Gibbs. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends.

Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Wi******er, New Hampshire, on Friday, August 7th at 11:00am. All are warmly welcomed to attend.
