Hello, Kelleys Island! Starting Monday, September 21st, the Water Department will begin replacing water meters Island-wide. We'll be working our way around the island and hope to wrap up before the end of the year.

🔧 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐓𝐎 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐓: Swapping a meter takes about 15 minutes or less, and your water will be off briefly while we work.

🏠 𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒 & 𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃𝐔𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆: If your meter is in your basement and hasn't been changed yet, or if you'd like to pick a date and time that works for you, please call us as soon as you can at 419-746-2555. If we don't answer, leave a message with your name, service address, and phone number and we'll call you back.

💧 𝐖𝐇𝐘 𝐖𝐄'𝐑𝐄 𝐃𝐎𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒

✅ 𝐀𝐂𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒. Meters wear with age. New meters measure precisely, so you only pay for what you actually use.

✅ 𝐅𝐄𝐖𝐄𝐑 𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐒, 𝐅𝐄𝐖𝐄𝐑 𝐄𝐑𝐑𝐎𝐑𝐒, 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐍𝐎 𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐄𝐑-𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐕𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐒. The new meters send readings by radio, so we no longer have to read meters by hand with pen and paper. That nearly eliminates meter reading errors by taking human error out of the process, and we don't have to come onto your property or into your home to read them. Readings that used to take hundreds of hours of meter reading and manual billing entry can now be done in minutes, streamlining the process and freeing up our water operators for more important maintenance and monitoring tasks.

✅ 𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐒 𝐒𝐎𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐑. Constant water flow is a common sign of a hidden leak, like a running toilet or a leaking line. The new meters help us spot that early, which can save you water and money.

✅ 𝐀 𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐘𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐌 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘𝐎𝐍𝐄. Better data helps us find leaks in the system, plan repairs and upgrades, and keep the water system running reliably for the whole island. That's a huge win for all of us!

The Kelleys Island EMS community extends its deepest gratitude to everyone who stepped forward to help in the aftermath of the recent flooding❤️

A heartfelt thank you to the Sandusky VFW 2529, North Ridgeville VFW Post 9871, Bellevue VFW Post 1238, Kelleys Island VFW 9908, and The Metrohealth System for your incredible generosity, compassion, and unwavering support.

Your contributions have played a vital role in helping replenish supplies, replace what was lost, and assist in the ongoing recovery, and repair efforts across our island.

We also want to recognize the many Kelley’s Island community members, businesses, volunteers, and supporters whose generosity—whether through donations, time, labor, equipment, or encouragement—has made a truly meaningful difference.

Every act of kindness, no matter the size, has helped our community move forward.

A huge thank you to the MetroHealth Event Medicine staff for joining us on Kelleys Island during IslandFest and providing outstanding support throughout the weekend.

We truly appreciate your partnership, professionalism, and willingness to work alongside our team during one of the busiest weekends of the year. Having the MetroHealth personnel here helped strengthen our coverage and allowed us to better serve everyone enjoying IslandFest.

Thank you for your dedication, teamwork, and commitment to our community. We appreciate all you did this weekend and look forward to working together again soon!

Over the last 24 hours, Kelleys Island experienced devastating, record-breaking rainfall, resulting in flooding in areas across the island. Since then, we've received countless phone calls, messages, and questions—and we've also heard the rumors that Kelleys Island is "closed."

That is simply not true. Kelleys Island is OPEN, but please keep a few things in mind as we gather our footing.

Both the Kelleys Island Ferry Boat Line and Jet Express are continuing to operate. At this time, neither transportation provider has announced changes to their regular schedules. As always, weather and conditions can change quickly, so we encourage everyone to follow the Kelleys Island Ferry and Jet Express Ferry to Put-in-Bay, Kelleys Island & Cedar Point pages for the latest service updates before traveling.

Our community is working incredibly hard to recover, and we simply ask that visitors bring a little extra patience, understanding, and kindness as the island gets back on its feet.

Please keep the following in mind:

🚧 Some areas and roads still have standing water. Use caution while traveling and never drive through flooded roadways. Road closures will continue until it is safe to travel.

💧 The Water Department is asking everyone to conserve water while crews continue managing resources.

🏨 If you have questions about your stay, please contact your hotel, motel, rental, campground, or lodging provider directly
for the most accurate information regarding your reservation.

🍽️ Some businesses may have adjusted hours or temporary closures while they clean up and recover, so calling ahead or following on Facebook is always recommended.
