So much of life isn’t found in what’s next…
but in what’s already here.

We’re often taught to move faster, achieve more, stay ahead...
as if slowing down means falling behind.

But presence isn’t something we add to life.
It’s something we return to.

In the pauses.
In the quiet.
In the ordinary moments we usually overlook.

When we slow down enough to notice, life becomes less about chasing…
and more about being here.

And somewhere in that simplicity, we start to remember ourselves again.

Through every season, and every version of who we are becoming…
we choose ourselves. 🤍

Sometimes we confuse love with effort.

We think:
“If I just understand more…
give more…
wait longer…
explain better…
be more patient…”

…then reciprocity will appear.

But reciprocity is not something you convince someone into.

It’s something you recognize.

Mutual care.
Mutual effort.
Mutual curiosity.
Mutual presence.

Not perfection.
Not constant agreement.
But a natural movement toward one another.

And when it’s missing, choosing yourself doesn’t mean becoming bitter or blaming the other person.

It means accepting the information honestly.

Some people simply do not have the capacity, willingness, or alignment to meet you where you are.

That’s not punishment.
That’s clarity.

And clarity is love too.

Choose yourself. 🤍

Not every reaction belongs to the present moment.

Sometimes we’re responding to an old wound, an old fear, an old version of ourselves that learned how to stay safe.

The challenge is not becoming someone who is never affected.
The challenge is becoming conscious enough to notice what’s happening before the story takes over.

To pause.
To breathe.
To ask: Am I responding to what is actually here… or to something I’ve carried for a long time?

Triggers may arise automatically. What we do with them is the choice.

Real power isn’t found in winning the moment.
It’s found in staying connected to yourself within it.

Choose yourself. 🤍

Peace is often misunderstood.

We think it arrives after everything is fixed.
After the right relationship, the right circumstances, the right outcome.

But peace rarely begins around us first.
It begins within us.

It begins the moment we stop abandoning ourselves in order to keep the peace for everyone else.
The moment we remember that we have choice.
That we can set boundaries.
Rest. Speak honestly. Let go. Begin again.

Life may not change overnight.
But the way we experience life can change in an instant.

Because choosing peace isn’t stepping away from life.
It’s stepping into it with awareness.

Choose yourself. 🤍

Aging is teaching me that love changes form.

At some point, the people who once guided us through life begin navigating a world that no longer moves the way it used to for them.

And it’s hard.

Not just for them.
For us too.

Because sometimes we keep relating to who they were, instead of meeting them where they are now.

What I’m learning is that beneath the frustration, forgetfulness, or emotional reactions… there is often fear, grief, exhaustion, and a quiet loss of confidence.

And maybe choosing yourself also means choosing how you show up for the people you love.

With patience.
With presence.
With compassion.

Because feeling seen matters at every stage of life.

Sometimes we think we need to escape, fix something, or figure everything out.

But often, what we’re really craving is space.

Space to slow down.
Space to breathe.
Space to reconnect with ourselves underneath all the noise.

I’m learning that rest isn’t laziness.
Receiving isn’t weakness.
And not every moment of life needs to be productive to be meaningful.

There’s something healing about allowing yourself to simply experience life again.

That too is choosing yourself.

Today I sat with my mom…

She is 89 and has memory issues, and she told me how hard her life is.
And I understand… because in her mind, it is.

But I also saw something else.
Her friends.
Her laughter.
A beautiful lunch together.

So gently, I reminded her…
there is still love here.

And then I left, sat in the car, and felt it all.

Choosing yourself isn’t always about big decisions.
Sometimes it’s this…

Holding compassion for someone else’s reality while staying grounded in your own

Choosing yourself doesn’t require perfection.
It requires willingness.

I showed up not fully polished, not perfect, but fully where I am.
And it was enough.

Sometimes choosing yourself looks like being seen before you feel ready,
and trusting that who you are in this moment is already enough.

Right now, it looks like traveling, moving, and allowing life to unfold.

What are you doing to choose yourself?

I used to do this work inside prison walls.
Now I do it with women in everyday life.

And the truth is, the struggle is often the same:
not knowing how to choose yourself.

So many of us stay too long in relationships that hurt us, seek affirmation outside ourselves, over-give, and remain in lives that no longer fit because fear tells us we have no other choice.

But we do.
There is another way.
And it begins by choosing yourself.

Yesterday I stood in front of a room of psychologists and practitioners and shared my story.

I’ll be honest… I was nervous.

It had been a long time since I had spoken in this way and my mind tried very hard to convince me I might forget what I wanted to say or stumble over my words.

But something important happens when we move toward fear instead of away from it.

Once I began speaking, the story found its way.

My talk, From Victimization to Empowerment: Choosing Yourself as a Pathway to Freedom, was not about theory or modality. It was about lived experience… the moment we realize we have the power to choose something different for our lives.

Many people came up afterward and shared how deeply they resonated. That’s always the greatest reward.

Growth rarely feels comfortable in the moment… but on the other side of fear there is always expansion.

And sometimes choosing yourself simply means showing up anyway.
