☀️ Ben Reed, graduate student intern, has immediate availability to see adult clients both virtually or in person at our beautiful Kennebunk office. Ben accepts BCBS and Cigna insurance and can offer a sliding fee based upon need. ☀️
Ben is open to working with any adult client at any stage of life on an individual basis. As an LGBTQ+ clinician, he is open to working with LGBTQ+ clients, though identities outside of this umbrella are also very-much encouraged to contact Ben for services.
Ben is currently a graduate student studying clinical mental health counseling at the University of Southern Maine. Through his work with clients as an intern, Ben wants to de-mystify the counseling space as a collaborative, non-judgmental, and welcoming place where life’s celebrations and joys, as well as its overwhelm and hardships, have equitable importance in the room. With a strong emphasis on rapport-building, Ben approaches clients individually with warmth, authenticity, and an earnestness to learn more about you to bring a high standard of informed care to each session. Ben also seeks to bring moments of levity to sessions when appropriate to find the light-heartedness even in life’s hardest moments, without eclipsing the emotions underneath.
Ben’s approach to counseling is anchored in the evidence-based practices of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance & commitment therapy (ACT), and narrative therapy to conceptualize you and your histories as both the starring role of your story, as well as its author. Through exploring all the different plot points and storylines of your life, we can examine unhelpful narratives, and rewrite your story in life to one that feels the most authentic to you and your goals. In practicing person-centered care, Ben will regard you as the expert in your own life experiences, and will join forces with you to find treatment approaches that feel relevant and effective to your needs and experiences. Alongside these therapeutic approaches, Ben is also willing to explore outside evidence-based therapy modalities, and weave these into the work we do to best meet your diverse needs.
Beyond the world of counseling and psychotherapy, Ben enjoys getting outdoors in all the glorious (and different) Maine weathers. He also loves engaging with the arts, such as watching a good movie, reading great books, or finding new favorite music.
