Our condolences to the family and friends of Matthew Puican. Details of his service on Thursday, July 30th, are in the full obituary.

"Matt filled his days with the people he loved, his guitar, fishing, kick ball, rock concerts and the Philadelphia Eagles. Among his family and friends he was known as “Meat Man” because of his passion for barbequing - steaks of all kinds were his specialty, and he was known to utilize a variety of seasonings, tools, and cooking methods. In addition to these pastimes, Matt loved a festive crab feast and particularly enjoyed spending time with his family in Avalon, New Jersey, for their annual vacation. The time spent in Avalon included some of his best memories with his beloved family and lifelong friends. He never missed a moment when his family would be celebrating an event or holiday, exemplifying what it meant to cherish family."

Do you feel pressure to “do something” with your grief? You’re not alone.
All of our cultural stories are stories of transformation, of redemption. But pain is not always redeemed, in the end or otherwise.
Being brave is not about overcoming what hurts or turning it into a gift.
Being brave is about waking to face each day when you would rather just stop waking up.
Being brave is staying present to your own heart when that heart is shattered into a million different pieces and can never be made right.
We all need a place where we can tell the truth about how hard this is. My monthly group is a great place to connect with other grieving people. And get your questions answered.

We don't see this often in the Kennett Square area, but decorating caskets or cremation containers is another way that families can express their love for their person and participate in their grief. The casket covered with band stickers is pretty fantastic but I think the art on the other two are wonderful as well.

With July 4th approaching, it seems like a good time to mention that, seven days a week, Grieco Funeral Home accepts retired American flags for proper disposal. Our practice is to place one or two flags with a US veteran who is being cremated, that way their ashes and the flag's ashes are intermingled. Pretty powerful. Stop by anytime to drop off a flag that is faded, torn, or tattered. If we are not in the office, there is a bin outside where you can leave the flag.
