yogaś-citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ

"Yoga calms the fluctuations of the mind."

Yoga is unity. Yoga is finding the stillness in the heart and uniting it with the consciousness in the mind.

I always looked at yoga as a way to step away from myself. Step away from my thoughts. Step away from problem-solving.

On the mat, my energy had somewhere to go that wasn't the spiral in my head. The mat was narrow enough that nothing else fit. The breath was loud enough to drown out the noise.

And somewhere in that stepping away, I realized I had been stepping toward something all along.

All at once, I was at one with myself and the universe.

atha yogānuśāsanam

"Now, Yoga Begins."

The very first line of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

It's a doorway.

The word *atha* means NOW.

Not yesterday.
Not when you're ready.
Not when life calms down.

NOW.

Yoga begins the moment you arrive.
