Save the duckies (watch to the end)!!! Dr. Keith was headed to his optometry clinic when he heard the cries for help! 13 little duckies were trapped in the storm drain next to The Stella Hotel. Kenosha Community Service Officers quickly responded and saved the day! Dr. Keith then saw the duck family on their way to Cut Stone, lol (Special thanks to Sharon from the Copy Center for redirecting traffic).

Happy Mother's Day coming up soon! Oh, by the way, did you know that the founder of Mother's Day, Anna Jarvis, was arrested while protesting the commercialization of the holiday she created!? Very interesting!

And here are some interesting vision related facts for mom's (and their newborns):
At 1 month old, a newborn can see within 8 to 15 inches away.
At 5 months old, they'll move their eyes from person to person and view objects up to 3 feet away.
At 7-12 months old they can follow objects with just their eyes at near and far.
At 12-18 months they can watch their favorite to dropped into a container.

Red flags of *possible* vision issues in newborns:
-Eyes are crossed, turn in or out, shake constantly, or move independently of one another.
-Eye lid(s) droop to cover pupil.
-Pupil(s) look cloudy, white, misshapen, or different sizes.
-Eyes water constantly.

Fun update time! Most book lovers wear glasses 🤓, and would love a fun way to clean those glasses. I've got just the thing! Large literary classic cleaning cloths. 😍 I'm in talks with Sam from Blue House Books about these beauties, so stay tuned for us to figure out the details.

Time for another shoutout from the Racine Aging and Disability Resource Center Special Needs Fair!

I connected with Speaking Life Speech Therapy & Wellness. They
prioritize a holistic, root-cause approach to speech therapy, going far beyond traditional training to look at how a person's overall development and environment can impact their voice. It’s excellent that their Mount Pleasant clinic is equipped to support the whole family, serving both children and adults.

My clinic operates on a similar belief that you can't rush through an exam and expect to understand the whole patient.

If you are a parent looking for deeper insights, their speech-language pathologist, Elyse Scheeler, hosts a wonderful podcast called "Speaking Life Into Motherhood." In it, Elyse offers genuine encouragement and real-life advice to help exhausted moms raising kids with special needs find a path to thriving.

BeLEAF Survivors, Inc. provides a safe space and necessary advocacy for healing after trauma through their focused support programs. Learning more about their work to build a culture of consent is incredibly important.

I founded my own clinic to solve a parallel problem. I wanted to offer a quiet, safe space where patients never feel like a burden to a clinic's busy schedule, especially when navigating complex or stressful situations.

I had fun connecting with Annabell, their Co-Director of Programs at the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Racine Special Needs fair. She really made those glasses work!

I’ve learned a lot about how Sonnenberg Schools provide special education in a fully inclusive, K through 12 environment. Their priority is on helping students identify and cultivate their unique gifts!

It was great connecting with their team at the 2026 Aging and Disability Resource Center of Racine County Special Needs Resource Fair to discuss how personalized, specialized care benefits our community across both Kenosha and Racine.

It was great connecting with Tim Hess from Adaptive Training & Fitness at the Aging and Disability Resource Center Special Needs Fair recently.

I learned a lot about how they make wellness accessible for those with special needs. Their approach to building confidence, improving mobility, and helping clients achieve unique fitness goals is wonderful for our area.
