With Father’s Day coming up next weekend, we’re thinking about the sayings, lessons, jokes, and little traditions passed down by dads, grandfathers, uncles, and father figures.

Some advice sticks with us for a lifetime.

What is something your dad, grandfather, or father figure always used to say? Share it with us in the comments!

Rehab Recovery Tip:

Strength is not just about lifting weights. For seniors, strength can mean getting out of a chair safely, walking with more confidence, improving balance, returning to daily routines, or reducing fall risk.

During Men’s Health Week, we’re especially mindful of the importance of helping men stay active, supported, and engaged in their recovery goals.

Our therapy team works with residents on practical skills that matter in everyday life.

Have questions about short-term rehab after a hospital stay or participating in therapy during a long stay? We’re happy to help families understand what comes next.

Dementia Care Minute:

When a loved one living with dementia says something that is not accurate, it can be natural to want to correct them.

But correction is not always the most helpful response. Sometimes it can increase confusion, embarrassment, or frustration.

Instead, try offering reassurance first.

“You’re safe.”
“I’m right here with you.”
“We’ll take care of it together.”
“That sounds important to you.”

The goal is not to win the facts. The goal is to protect dignity, reduce distress, and create a calmer moment.

Men’s Health Week is a good reminder that health conversations matter at every age.

For many men, small steps can make a meaningful difference: staying active, keeping appointments, taking medications as directed, asking questions after a hospital stay, and speaking up when something feels different.

At Arbor View, we encourage strength, safety, confidence, and quality of life for every resident.

Wellness does not have to be complicated. Sometimes it starts with one good question, one short walk, one therapy goal, or one decision to ask for support.

Join us in encouraging the men in our lives to take care of their health this week!

At Arbor View, care is personal.

It’s learning someone’s favorite song.
Knowing how they take their coffee.
Celebrating progress in therapy.
Offering reassurance on a hard day.
Helping families understand what comes next.
Creating moments of dignity, comfort, and connection.

Whether someone is here for short-term rehab, long-term care, respite, or dementia support, our goal is to help them feel cared for, respected, and at home.

If your family has questions about senior care options, we’re always happy to help.

Questions Families Ask Us:

“What should we bring for a short-term stay?”

A few helpful items may include:

Comfortable clothing for therapy
Non-slip shoes
Glasses, dentures, hearing aids, and chargers if needed
Personal toiletries
A favorite blanket, sweater, or family photo
A current medication list
Important phone numbers
A positive outlook: A short stay can create great long-term results!

Every person’s needs are different, but familiar items can help a new setting feel more comfortable.

Short-term rehab is often a bridge between the hospital and home, and our goal is to help residents work toward strength, safety, and confidence.

A respite stay can be the key to unlocking caregiver well-being, resulting in a longer, more successful in-home care journey.

Too many choices can feel overwhelming for someone living with dementia.

Instead of asking, “What do you want to wear today?” try offering two simple options:

“Would you like the blue shirt or the green one?”

Instead of asking, “What do you want to eat?” try:

“Would you like soup or a sandwich?”

Simple choices can help preserve dignity while reducing frustration.

The goal is not to take control away. The goal is to make the moment easier, calmer, and more successful.

*Small changes in how we ask questions can make a big difference.*

Caregiver reminder:

You are not failing by asking for help.

Caring for someone you love can be meaningful, exhausting, rewarding, and emotionally complicated all at once.

Many families wait until they are completely overwhelmed before asking questions about care options. But needing support does not mean you have done anything wrong.

It means you are trying to keep your loved one safe, cared for, and supported.

Families do not have to walk through senior care decisions alone. We're here to offer any support we can along your journey.

Consider stopping in for our monthly Dementia Caregiver Support Group for friends and family of those living with Dementia. It's the 2nd Friday of each month at 2pm and everyone is welcome.

We're so grateful for the generous volunteers from Kerrville Troop 111 and CubScout Pack 1205 for doing a seasonal deep clean of our Memory Care outdoor spaces! Our residents love watching the wildlife out these windows, and now they'll have a sparkling clear view to enjoy.

Thank you so much for giving your time on this beautiful Saturday to spread kindness in our community!

School’s out, summer is here, and we’re celebrating the season Arbor View-style! ☀️

We created this simple “Summer at Arbor View” coloring page for our residents, and we thought our families, followers, and local kids might enjoy it too — especially during the first week of summer break!

Print it out, color it together, and share a little summer joy with someone you love. Bonus points if you bring or send us your finished masterpiece — our residents would love to see them! 🖍️💛
