Did You Know?
One question we hear often is, "Do I need to notify Social Security when my loved one passes away?"
In Texas, your funeral home will notify the Social Security Administration of the death as part of the services we provide.
Once we have received and released your certified death certificates, the next step is for the surviving spouse or the parent/guardian of any eligible child(ren) to contact the Social Security Administration directly. They can determine whether you or your family members qualify for any survivor benefits or the one-time lump-sum death payment.
Every family's situation is different, so it's important to speak with Social Security to discuss your specific circumstances.
If you have questions about what happens after a death or what paperwork to expect, we're always here to help guide you through the process.
