Maybe we also need a Beaver? It’s also an aquatic animal like our favorite mascot the Axolotl! As one of the few remaining independent practices we also support our local businesses.

Not every child with ADHD needs medication of any kind but the primary goal of ADHD treatment is academic success, we want all our kids to thrive and achieve anything they want in life and have the confidence to know no challenge is impossible to overcome!

**Gun Safety Awareness Post**

At South Dayton Pediatrics, the safety of our children is always our top priority. Conversations about gun safety can be difficult, but they are essential. Teaching children what to do if they ever encounter a fi***rm can save lives. Start with simple, clear rules: **Stop. Don’t Touch. Run Away. Tell an Adult.** Reinforce that guns are not toys and should only be handled by trained adults in safe, supervised environments.

Parents, it’s also important to store fi***rms safely: keep guns locked, unloaded, and stored separately from am******on. Regularly checking that children cannot access them is a critical step in prevention. Open, age-appropriate conversations help children feel safe asking questions and understanding the seriousness of gun safety.

📊 Why this matters:

• Fi****ms are now the **leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States**.

• In 2023, about **2,566 children ages 1–17 died from fi***rms**, averaging roughly seven child deaths per day.

• From 2013–2023, nearly **21,000 children (17 and under) died due to fi***rm injuries** in the U.S.

These numbers are heartbreaking—but prevention starts at home and in our communities. By talking openly with our children, modeling responsible behavior, and practicing safe storage, we can reduce risk and protect the lives of our kids.

If you ever have questions about discussing difficult safety topics with your child, our team at South Dayton Pediatrics is here to support you. Together, we can keep our children safe, informed, and protected. 💙

🩺💙 South Dayton Pediatrics Family 💙🩺

We’re seeing an increase in Influenza and COVID cases in our community, and we want to help keep all of our kiddos happy, healthy, and thriving! 🤧🦠

Here are a few simple tips to stay healthy this season:
✨ Wash hands frequently with soap and water
✨ Keep sick children home to prevent spreading germs
✨ Encourage good sleep, hydration, and healthy meals
✨ Stay up to date on recommended vaccines
✨ Cover coughs & sneezes (elbow bumps save the day!)

Parents, don’t forget to call our office or use the Patient Portal to schedule your child’s wellness visits and check-ups. Preventive care is one of the best ways to keep your little ones strong all year long! 📅👶🏽

We’re also excited to remind our families that we have an AMAZING Behavioral Health Specialist on site who is now accepting new patients! 💬🧠 She’s here to support emotional wellness, behavior concerns, anxiety, ADHD support, and more❤️ because mental health matters just as much as physical health.

We understand families may have questions regarding recent changes to recommendations suggested by the CDC. We will continue to follow the best science available and continue to recommend the best protection for our patients. If you have questions or concerns about vaccines please discuss them with your provider or send them a message through the patient portal. We are here for you and would not recommend anything we would not do for our own children.

Did you ever wonder why the Axolotl is the perfect mascot for a pediatric practice? Well the Axolotl is the Peter Pan of salamanders because they remain in the larval stage all their lives and never “grow up”. Serving kids we try never to fully “grow up” and still try to see the world through the eyes of a child. In truth adults have so much to learn from children. May 2026 be the year we are kinder to each other. Much love from the SDP family!
