Diet comes from the Greek word “Dieta” which means ‘way of life’. Your diet is how you live, not a short-term change in your eating habits. If you are taking a GLP-1 medication — semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) or tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) — your prescription is doing most of the work in the short term. What you put on your plate will determine how much of that work actually sticks. GLP-1 medications suppress appetite and reshape hunger signals. They do not replace the need for good nutrition. In fact, because these medications reduce how much you eat, the quality of every calorie you consume matters more than ever.

In my practice, the patients who get the most out of GLP-1 therapy are the ones who treat the medication as a tool, not a crutch. It’s not only about how you eat during treatment, but more importantly how you eat long term that dictates your long-term success. I have seen patients lose significant weight on these medications and regain a significant portion back once they discontinue treatment. This typically happens when their diet and lifestyle never actually changed alongside the medical intervention. I have also seen patients use this window of reduced appetite to completely rebuild their relationship with food and exercise. Those are the ones who keep the weight off and have long term success.

The cravings you experience on GLP-1 medication are telling you something important. When alcohol stops appealing to you, when a bag of chips no longer calls your name the way it once did, when grilled salmon and roasted vegetables start feeling like exactly what you want — pay attention to that. That is not the drug talking. That is your biology, finally allowed to express what it actually needs.

The Musician Prince used to say that Recreation was really Re-Creation. A time we take to disconnect, reflect, and re-build. Every surfers knows that holding a new surfboard for the first time feels like we are holding a new future in our hands. New adventures, new sensations, new possibilities. As I take my time to reflect and re-connect, I think of what I have built and what I intend to create going forwards. Good Hearts Health started as my Emergency Medicine practice. It became a vehicle to help people navigate the challenges faced by the pandemic. Most recently, I saw the future in GLP-1 medications before it was popular and created a concierge weight loss practice. So far, I have helped over 1000 people change their lives, take control of their health, and build towards a better future.
For the past year I have been exploring the potential and limits of regenerative medicine and longevity. Triggered by my own injuries and a desire to stay active I have tried various Peptides, Stem Cells, PRP, and have sought out the opinions of some of the most cutting edge orthopedic and regenerative medicine specialists in the world. I have learned a great deal about what works, what does not, and what the limits of each of these different therapeutic modalities are. I have also witnessed an increasingly predatory medical environment on Social Media where so called “Medical experts” push unproven therapies with minimal medical supervision and no accountability.
As I depart the jungle revitalized and reinvigorated, I look forward to being a voice of reason in an increasingly dangerous and reckless medical environment. I have started creating blog posts on various topics related to my medical practice as well as other hot button topics in the wellness and regenerative medicine space. To anyone who wants an honest opinion in a world of misinformation and retail medicine I look to provide that to you.
I reflect on the past with an eye towards the future and I am excited for what lies ahead. As always thank you to Kandui Resort for hosting me, trusting me to take care of your community, and providing me with a beautiful environment for Re-Creation.
