Catnip oil for mosquito repellent, good to know!

Interesting research for summer: catnip may be more than a favorite herb for cats.

A recent study highlighted by The Guardian found that a topical lotion made with catnip oil performed similarly to DEET in mosquito-repellent testing. Researchers tested 2% and 6% catnip oil lotions in Uganda, with the 6% formula reported as comparable to DEET in the study. The work also points to the possibility of locally produced, lower-cost repellents in areas where mosquito-borne illness remains a serious concern.

It is a useful reminder that plant-based compounds continue to offer promising areas for research, especially when accessibility, affordability, and public health intersect.
