What's in a name?
The veterinary and animal care industry relies on definitions and titles to formulate legislation.
Up until now therapies and holistic approaches to animal care defined by traditional veterinary medicine have been titled as alternative, implying that owners must choose one or the other. As such, division has been created that prevents us from finding common ground and a path forward that is beneficial for all of the animals in our care.
Change starts with small actionable steps and with professionals that choose to be a part of it - a driving force.
I would ask that as bodyworkers regardless of our modality or specialty, begin referring to our services not as alternative but as complementary.
By taking initiative and accountability to be an active part of our industry we can build forward momentum in creating suitable and appropriate changes that create the legal space for us all to continue providing the supportive care the animals and their owners deserve.
