What's in a name?

The veterinary and animal care industry relies on definitions and titles to formulate legislation.

Up until now therapies and holistic approaches to animal care defined by traditional veterinary medicine have been titled as alternative, implying that owners must choose one or the other. As such, division has been created that prevents us from finding common ground and a path forward that is beneficial for all of the animals in our care.

Change starts with small actionable steps and with professionals that choose to be a part of it - a driving force.

I would ask that as bodyworkers regardless of our modality or specialty, begin referring to our services not as alternative but as complementary.

By taking initiative and accountability to be an active part of our industry we can build forward momentum in creating suitable and appropriate changes that create the legal space for us all to continue providing the supportive care the animals and their owners deserve.

After a successful ZooFest Movie Night at the Midwest Theater, our focus now shifts to ZooFest tomorrow at Riverside Discovery Center. Here’s a look at many of the things that will be going on throughout the day.
A big “thank you” to Cathy McDaniel for designing this flyer and contributing to ZooFest in many other ways, including designing many of the ads in Nspire Today!’s special zoo section that we’ll hand out to attendees tomorrow.

🐒 Chimpanzees don't do routine X-rays.

Most people think thermal imaging is just for horses. It's not — and zoos need it more than almost anyone.

Unlike a horse, who can be handled and positioned for standard radiographs, many zoo animals require sedation, anesthesia, and significant risk just to get basic diagnostic imaging. Getting a simple X-ray on a chimpanzee, big cat, or exotic species can mean a major event for the entire care team.

That's where Veterinary Standard Infrared Imaging (VSIR) can make an innovative change:

🔹 Zero contact, zero stress
🔹 No sedation required
🔹 Reveals inflammation, circulation issues, and areas of concern BEFORE invasive procedures are needed
🔹 Helps care teams make evidence-based welfare decisions — faster, safer, and with less risk

For zoo veterinary teams balancing animal welfare, safety, and resources, this isn't just convenient. It's transformative.

I recently had the incredible honor of bringing world-class VSIR imaging to Riverside Discovery Center — the second-oldest zoo in Nebraska, and the ONLY zoo in the state home to chimpanzees. 🦍

Standing in front of a thermal camera imaging a chimpanzee is not something I'll ever take for granted. Getting to apply this technology in a setting with such unique, complex care needs was a career highlight I won't forget — and exactly the kind of work that reminds me why VSIR matters. For horses. For exotic species. For every animal that can't tell us where it hurts.

My mission is this: to advance the awareness, education, and application of Veterinary Standard Infrared Imaging — everywhere it can make a difference.

Curious how this technology works, or want to explore it for your facility? Send me a message — I'd love to talk.

Thermography is transforming the way we assess and treat equine hoof problems and assess balance. By providing an early warning system for inflammation, infection, and other issues, it allows veterinarians and farriers to intervene earlier, preventing more serious complications and improving outcomes for horses. As technology continues to advance, thermography will undoubtedly play a key role in equine hoof care, offering a non-invasive, objective, and reliable method for keeping horses healthy and sound.

🪰Every year there are flies.

🪰Every year we see questions about fly management.

At Dynamic I 100% believe in fly boots for every horse, I don't use sheets and masks never stay on.

Here's a 3-step approach that has worked for my herd and would work for your paddocks, barns and more!

1. Central Life Sciences - ClariFly Larvicide to stop four species of flies from maturing. This step works even if you don't do the next steps. 👌
2. Rescue fly traps to trap adult flies. This slows breeding and helps speed up the elimination process.
3. Fly spray as needed, until it's not!

➡️Always remove manure as a source of breeding grounds.

😎You don't need sheets and masks when there are no flies to start with!
