🚗✨ Shiny Rides & Big Smiles at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King!

What an incredible day surrounded by chrome, horsepower, and history! The Annual Car Show at held outside of Ainsworth Hall at our Veterans Home in King was a roaring success — and it wouldn’t have been possible without all the amazing folks who brought their beautiful cars to share. We had an outstanding turnout with 44 vehicles & we enjoyed great music from our DJ, Reggie!

From classic cruisers to muscle machines, every vehicle told a story, and the joy on our veterans’ faces said it all. ❤️

A heartfelt THANK YOU to every car owner, volunteer, and visitor who made the day so special. 🏁😎🚗

🤩Get to know Kathi Steffens - Honoring Service, Providing Compassionate Care

Kathi, a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in Moses Hall, has been part of the team at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King for two and a half years.

After more than 30 years in healthcare, Kathi came to the King Home as a Limited Term Employee and quickly decided to make it her permanent home. She says the King Home stands out as “a great place to work” with wonderful benefits, great people, and plenty of fun activities that bring staff and members together.

“It’s the members that keep me working here,” she said. “It’s very rewarding listening to their stories and helping them through their day.”

Kathi also values the teamwork at the King Home, sharing, “It’s not ‘this is mine’ or ‘that is mine’—it’s ‘this is ours.’” Her advice to new staff: “Always listen, because our members will tell you what they need.”

We thank Kathi for her dedication to our members and their spouses every day!

😅💦Last Friday, our members living in Ainsworth Hall took aim to fight the summer heat! Lots of laughs ensued amongst members and care staff with our impromptu water fight on the patio! It was a fun way to cool off and for all of us to feel like 'kids' again! Here are some hilarious pictures of the afternoon.💦🤪

🛩️✈ Members at the Veterans Home at King had a special visit from the Red Star Pilots from the EAA Air Venture in Oshkosh on July 23rd. Members from Ainsworth and Moses Halls enjoyed a special 20 plane flyover the King campus and afterwards, loaded into a bus and had a meet and greet at the Waupaca airport to talk to the pilots and see the planes up close!

Most of the Red Star Pilots Association members are military veterans flying CJ-6 and Yak-52 aircraft versions, which are displaying the differences in jet and propeller aircraft.

We'd like to extend a BIG heartfelt thank you to Dan and Lee from the Red Star Pilots Association for setting up this exciting opportunity again for our members!

🎂🎉Please join us in wishing a very Happy Birthday to Ethel Myers, a WWII spouse, who lives at our Home in King as she turned 100 years young this week! Moses Hall held two parties celebrating her milestone with family present, some furry friends, and was joined by Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, Secretary James Bond who presented her with a birthday certificate! 🤩🥳

The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King is holding two opportunities for Classic Car owners to show their cars this summer on our Campus! The shows will be held on July 26 and August 22, from 9:00-11:30 a.m. both days.

🌞Meet Gabby Steffens, Ainsworth Hall - Honoring Service, Providing Compassionate Care

Gabby is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the memory care unit who has proudly served at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King for 12 years.

After starting her nursing career in home healthcare, Gabby was drawn to King after friends told her about the Home’s higher standard of care, strong sense of community, and dedication to members and their spouses.

“This isn’t your typical nursing home,” Gabby shared. “The focus is more on the members than just taking care of them — we really get to know them and build relationships.”

Gabby says the welcoming staff and strong teamwork keep her at King, adding, “Nobody hesitates to come help you, and we all have a really good rapport with each other.”

Thank you, Gabby, for your dedication to our members and their spouses every day!

Members enjoyed fun, tasty drinks from our pop-up Tiki Bar, trying on some temporary tattoos, and having just a little bit of fun! Cheers to our activities team and skilled care staff who took part in the fun as well! 🤩🍹
