Meet Amy Jones, R.T. (R), a lead x-ray technologist who has worked at KRMC for three years. In addition to training and mentoring new members of the hospital X-ray staff, she also doubles as a clinical preceptor for Mohave College X-ray students. Amy moved to Kingman seven years ago from her native Tokyo, Japan, to care for her grandmother. After arriving, she worked as a pharmacy tech and later at the front desk in a doctor’s office where she became fascinated when observing echocardiograms. Watching the procedure piqued her interest in X-ray as a career and she chose to attend school at Mohave College, eventually graduating in 2023. Fluent in Japanese, Amy has spent much of her life between Japan and the U.S., graduating high school in Hawaii before eventually making her way back to Tokyo—and then to Kingman. She jokes that she moved from a city of 14 million people to a city of approximately 30,000. When she’s not working at KRMC, Amy enjoys performing in community theater at Beale Street Theater, where she shares her talents for both singing and dancing. She even performed in the most recent production of Annie. It may have taken Amy a while to get here, but we sure are glad she did.

June is Men’s Health Month, a time to focus on the importance of preventive care and overall wellness. KRMC is raising awareness about common health issues that can often be prevented or detected early through routine medical care. Even if you feel healthy and have no symptoms, regular wellness visits with your provider can help identify potential concerns before they become serious. Taking a proactive approach to your health today can make a significant difference in your future well-being. Schedule your wellness appointment and make your health a priority this month.

As you head outdoors to enjoy the great weather and sunshine, here’s an important tip to help keep you and your family safe.

“Water-resistant” does not mean “waterproof.” In fact, no sunscreen is completely waterproof or sweatproof, and manufacturers are not allowed to make those claims.

When choosing a sunscreen, check the label for:
• Broad-spectrum protection to guard against both UVA and UVB rays.
• An SPF of 30 or higher.
• Water-resistant protection for either 40 or 80 minutes if you plan to swim or sweat.
• An expiration date to ensure the product is still effective.

For the best protection, reapply sunscreen at least every two hours, and more frequently if you are swimming, sweating, or drying off with a towel, as sunscreen can easily be rubbed away.

Have a fun, safe, and sun-smart summer!

Did you know? KRMC’s W.L. Nugent Cancer Center radiation oncologist Shirnett Williamson, MD, was recently published internationally by the European Association of Urology in a study examining radiation therapy for prostate cancer treatment. The study looked at men with early-stage prostate cancer who were treated with stereotactic body radiotherapy, also called SBRT. After 10 years, most patients were still free of cancer, and serious long-term side effects were uncommon. The results suggest that SBRT can be a safe and effective treatment option for many men with low-risk or intermediate-risk prostate cancer. The article was also featured by the prestigious National Institutes of Health (NIH). Meet Hannah Pierce, she has been part of the Kingman Regional Medical Center team for about six years but today marks her first day in a new role as a Trauma Registrar in the KRMC Emergency Department (ED). She recently spent six months as a health attendant at Kingman Middle School before returning to KRMC about a month ago. The Temecula, Calif. native originally started at KRMC as an LNA in the ICU before moving to the ED as a patient care tech and then a unit coordinator. Her new ED role at KRMC is not the only big change in Hannah’s life – she also starts nursing school through Mohave College next week with plans to eventually become a nurse practitioner specializing in mental health. While living in California, Hannah worked as a phlebotomist, a teacher and even spent time as an EMT. Fun facts about Hannah, in her youth she sang competitively across the country and even spent time as the Disney Princess Elsa at Disneyland.
