Sometimes I look at this and just think… wow.

It started as an idea that a lot of people didn’t understand... now 5 years later, this one "man in a van" has helped hundreds of families, spanning across nearly 20 states and more than 7 countries, and... when you think about all the family members and friends connected to those lives, helped bring healing to literally thousands of hearts.

Thousands. That's is insane. That’s hard for me to wrap my head around.

There were people who laughed. People who said it wouldn’t work. People who were absolutely certain I was doing it wrong and that’s okay...

The impact speaks for itself!

I don’t know what your dream is. Maybe it makes perfect sense to everyone around you. Or like me, it sounds completely ridiculous to them and you’ve kept it quiet because you’re afraid of what people will say if you actually try.

Step into it right now, today! (We can share the day and I can root you on too!)

I did and it know it sound so freaking cliche, but that's really all it was. Time, and time, and time again, along the way God, Creator, Source, Allah, whatever it is that runs though each of us has come through in the clutch. Every single time because that idea was not "my" idea it was hers, or his, or it's or maybe "Ours"

Today is a mixed bag for lots of reasons but I can say that I have successfully lived my dream. That not because I have a business, or proved anybody wrong, far from it... It's because real families took a leap of faith on me, and I got the chance to make a real and lasting difference in their lives, I got to make some of their hardest days a bit more bearable in my own very special way.

That was my dream all along. There's an incredible sense of accomplishment that comes from helping people. I call it my "Rock Star" moment, thank you for helping me find my stage.

And standing here now, looking at what that idea became, I’m just incredibly thankful. Be a little crazy. Let them laugh.

But make your impact baby!

Labor Day didn’t start with cookouts, mattress sales, and a three-day weekend... It started with workers dying.

I went down the rabbit hole writing about where Labor Day actually came from, including the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire where 146 people died, the violent labor battles that eventually pushed the country toward recognizing workers, and something that really surprised me: just how much of that history is tied to our own backyard.

The Loray Mill strike in Gastonia.

Ella May Wiggins, who was murdered on her way to a union meeting.

North Carolina’s first cotton mill, built by Michael Schenck in Lincoln County in 1813.

And later, Carolina Freight right here in Cherryville, where generations of local families made their living moving America down the highway.

When you live here, these aren’t just names in a history book. Our families worked in those mills. They drove those trucks. They worked the lines, turned the wrenches, raised families, and built these communities.

So I thought it was worth telling the story of exactly why we have it was earned.

🇺🇸 How cool is this?

Today I was down in Columbia, South Carolina, getting some documents apostilled so we can return someone home to their family in Mexico. As I was walking around the Capitol grounds, I spotted this military caisson sitting outside.

Well... being a funeral director and a former Army Mortuary Affairs Specialist, there was no way I was just walking past it.

I introduced myself to the gentleman who manages the caisson, asked if I could take a picture, and he was kind enough to say yes. We talked for a few minutes, and he told me they had just finished Senator Lindsey Graham's funeral earlier that morning. I definitely wasn't expecting to stumble onto something like that today.

One thing a lot of people don't realize is that these caissons weren't originally built for funerals. They were horse drawn artillery wagons that carried ammunition into battle. When soldiers were killed, those same wagons often carried them from the battlefield. Over time, they became one of the most recognizable honors in a military funeral.

I just thought it was one of those neat pieces of history that most people never get to see up close.

One of the things I love about funeral service is that even on an ordinary workday, you can run into moments that remind you just how much tradition and meaning are woven into what we do.
Anyway, I thought it was too cool not to share. 🇺🇸💛

I didn't tell you who we were 🫣

👋 For those who don't know me, I'm Clay Bruggeman.

I'm a Cherryville resident, Army veteran, licensed funeral director and embalmer, husband, father, and the owner of Into Our Kare.

Over the years I've had the honor of serving families throughout Cherryville, Kings Mountain, Lincolnton, and communities across North Carolina. Every family has a story, and it's a privilege to help them honor the people they love.

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to some of the folks who may have seen our name around town but never knew who was behind it.
Thank you for supporting local businesses and local families. ❤️

What you should know before cremation:

• Even if your family has always used the same funeral provider... call around sometimes. Ask questions. Learn your options. Every funeral home operates differently.

• Unless you legally pre authorize your own cremation, someone else may eventually make that decision for you. Family dynamics, kinship laws, and legal next of kin matter more than most people realize.

• A Power of Attorney does NOT continue after death. A lot of families are shocked to learn that. Durable POA with express rights to disposition *that's the key!

• Preplanning is not really about “planning your funeral.”Most of the time it’s about reducing confusion, guilt, stress, and conflict for the people you love.

I’ll leave a link in the comments to a free preplanning tool anyone can use.

And if someone wants to formally pre authorize their cremation wishes, I’ll personally help them do it at no cost.

I think families deserve to know before they need it.

What if I told you a funeral home can legally quote you a price and drive it up by hundreds (maybe thousands) after they get you in the door?

I think a lot of people would say, duh. But do you know how they did it, and why?

I put together a North Carolina cremation guide for 2026.

• What direct cremation usually costs in NC
• Why prices vary so much
• What questions families should ask
• What’s included… and what often is not

At Into Our Kare, we believe families deserve clear answers before they ever have to pick up the phone.

📍Based in Cherryville and serving families across Gaston, Lincoln, Cleveland, and surrounding counties.

Mother’s Day can be beautiful, heavy, complicated, or all of those things at once.

For some, today is breakfast in bed, flowers, hugs, and laughter.
For others, it’s a quiet ache. A missing voice. A phone call you wish you could still make. A memory that catches you off guard.

However this day finds you, we hope you feel surrounded by love. The love you received, the love you gave, and the love that never really leaves.

To every mother, every grieving child, every woman who mothered without a title, every mother missing a child, and every heart carrying someone today…

We see you. We honor you.
And we’re holding space for you this Mother’s Day. 🌸

Real talk. We’ve served more overdose cases than we ever wanted to. And every single one leaves a mark.

I'm always ready to step in for families when the worst happens.
That’s my calling. That’s my responsibility. But...

Being well versed doesn’t mean I want more calls like this.
Behind every overdose is a name, a story, a family that never expected that phone call.

If you’re struggling, or someone you love is, please don’t wait.
There are people who care. There are ways out.

If you ever need me. I’ll be there, with compassion, and understanding, and love.

But I’d much rather see you stay here. -Clay
