David Wayne Snyder

David Wayne Snyder, 72, of Gastonia, NC, passed away on October 27, 2026 at Atrium Health Cleveland in Shelby, NC. He was born December 16, 1953 in Steuben County, NY, son of the late Milton Wayne Snyder and Muriel Drehmer and was preceded in death by his sister, Diana Romance-Green. Mr. Snyder, affectionately known by "Spider" by friends and family, proudly served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He worked most of his life as a contractor in the construction industry. In his spare time, Spider enjoyed fishing and cherished time spent riding motorcycles. He loved his canine companion and spent every moment he could with his family, who were always the center of his life. Spider cherished his grandchildren who all had a special place in his heart. He was a wonderful father and friend to many. The memories he created will live on in the lives of everyone who knew him for eternity.

James Dean Short

James Dean Short, 65, of Kings Mountain, NC, joined his risen Savior on October 28, 2026. Born October 21, 1961 in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late J.D. Short and Doris Camp Short. Dean was also preceded in death by his brothers Steve Franklin and Bill Short.

Dean graduated from Kings Mountain High School and worked at FMC Lithium for 25 years. He had a servant's heart and was always willing to help anyone in any way he could. He honed his talent for being handy, able to fix just about anything--or at least give it a try. Dean had a long list of projects he was working on at any given time, often simultaneously. He enjoyed flea markets and bringing his new-found treasures home to show them off.

Dean loved his Lord and he loved his family. He was a dedicated husband to his beloved wife Talina and he enjoyed close relationships with his entire family and extended family. He could often be found loving on and spoiling his grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Martha Sue Hardin Parker

Martha Sue Hardin Parker, 94, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on October 26, 2026 at Waltonwood Assisted Living in Charlotte, NC. She was born December 28, 1931 in Cleveland county, NC, daughter of the late Vassuer Judson and Vinnie Louise Beam Hardin and was preceded in death by her siblings, James and William Hardin, and Betty Link. Sue was also preceded in death by a son, Tim Parker and a granddaughter, Emily Parker. She attended Sharon Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC. Sue worked as a claims adjuster supervisor in the insurance industry for many years. She spent time with Travelers Insurance and retired from Cigna Insurance. Sue was a talented seamstress, creating beautiful apparel throughout the years. She loved quilting and made countless quilts for those she cared for. Sue also enjoyed knitting and working puzzles in her spare time. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and could be found in front of the television anytime they took the field. Sue loved her family dearly and cherished every moment she could spend with them. Holidays were always her favorite time because she could spend time with those she loved the most. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother to two generations. Her strength, compassion and love will be remembered by all those who knew and loved her for a lifetime.

Johnny Lawrence Lawson

Johnny Lawrence Lawson, 91, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on October 24, 2026 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby, NC. He was born April 10, 1935 in Virginia, son of the late Dillard and Ada Phillips Lawson and was preceded in death by his first wife, Joy Martin Lawson, and his second wife, Faye Barrett Huffstetler Lawson. He was also preceded in death by one sister, five brothers, and three children, Kathy Campbell, Jerry Lawson, and Robin Dow. Johnny was a man of strong faith and loved his Lord with all his heart and soul. He was very patriotic and served in the US Army during his youth. Johnny retired after many years of service to Wix Filters, Allen Plant. He was a talented musician and enjoyed playing the guitar. Johnny loved watching old western movies, being outdoors and was an avid walker, enjoying daily walks all of his life. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could find humor in every situation. Johnny was a wonderful father and grandfather who cherished every moment he could spend with his loved ones. His memory will continue to warm the hearts of all those who knew and loved him. Johnny will be missed greatly by many.

Mitchell "Shorty" Baldie King

Born April 2, 1949 in Terrytown, Georgia and passed away October 20, 2026 at the Testa Hospice Home in Kings Mountain, NC. Parents of Mitchell are John Baldie King and Mildred Lillian (Falls) King. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers. Mitchell leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Deborah, and four daughters, Renee’ King of Nebraska, Catherine (Patrick) McLeod of High Point, Brittany King of Kings Mountain, and Andrea King of Charlotte. Mitchell also leaves behind brothers Hunter, Fred and George and sister Darlene (Steve) Swearingen, all of Georgia, in addition to three granddaughters, one grandson and many other family members.

Mitchell was in the United States Air Force for 24 years, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant as a C-130 loadmaster. After retiring his dream was to drive a truck hauling fuel. He was a volunteer fireman in Nebraska for eight years until moving back to NC in 2000 where he remained until his death. His hobbies included cruising and camping with family and friends, as well as taking long walks with his dog.

Jason Eric Livingston

Jason Eric Livingston, 49, passed away on October 19, 2026 at home in Kings Mountain, NC. Born September 18, 1977 in Richland County, SC, he was the son of the late Timothy Asa Livingston and Sandra Cheryl Lynch.

Jason was a man of strong faith with an abiding love for the Lord. He also dearly loved his family and they enjoyed many great conversations together.

Jason is survived by his daughters Erica Livingston and Cheyenne McClain, sister Carla Dragon, grandson Luka Huskins, aunts Sheila Lynch Turner, Amanda Lynch, and Mia Lynch, and uncles Michael Jason Lynch and Roy Duane Lynch (Christine).

The family will hold a memorial service on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Kings Mountain officiated by Pastor Steve Taylor.

Mary Dover Wilson

Mary Dover Wilson, 79, of Kings Mountain, NC, went home to be with the Lord on October 17, 2026 at Testa Family Hospice House in Kings Mountain, NC. She was born January 18, 1947 in Shelby, NC, daughter of the late Robert Lee and Irene Roberts Dover and was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ronnie Willard Wilson. She was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Peggy Ann Dover; her sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Larry Elliott; by her two brothers and their wives, Jimmy Dover and his wife Barbara, Billy Dover and his wife Judy.
Mary enjoyed a long career at Shoco Marine, but was most proud of her roles as a devoted wife and loving mother. Mary loved being a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain for forty-three years, serving alongside her husband. Everything Mimi and Poppy did, they did as a team. Her kindness and prayers have had an eternal impact.

Mary is survived by her two sons and their wives, Brad and Robin Wilson of Kings Mountain, NC, and Robbie and Jeannette Wilson of Charlotte, NC; her ten grandchildren, Emily Doty (Ryan), Will Wilson (Tori), Theresa Gamble, Caroline Wilson, Joshua Wilson, Stephen Wilson, Elizabeth Wilson, Benjamin Wilson, Andrew Wilson and Nathan Wilson; her four great grandchildren, Peyton Doty, Riggs Doty, Kymani Johnson, and Jhanae Gamble. Mary is also survived by her sisters, Nanci Ellis, Carolyn Ledford and Joyce Whitten.

Barbara Sue Tackett

Barbara Sue Tackett, age 74, passed away peacefully in her home on October 11, 2026. Barbara was a constant pillar of strength for those around her. Her never-failing positive attitude, friendly nature, and commitment to Jesus were an inspiration to everyone in her life. She will be remembered as a faithful servant of Christ and will be greatly missed.

Barbara is the daughter of the late Earle and Betty Lou Kluber. She was baptized on April 27, 1952 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Victor, Iowa. Barbara grew up in Guernsey, Iowa on the family farm, and often talked about her love of the Iowa countryside and the view from the family’s windmill. She married Clenon Tackett in 1977, and the two built a wonderful life together. Barbara and Clenon were especially proud of the work they put into the opening of Advent Lutheran Church and praised God for the impact it would have on their community.

Over the years, Barbara volunteered her time to numerous organizations including the Kings Mountain Crisis Ministry, the Joy Theater, and numerous volunteer opportunities at church. She never met a stranger and would easily strike up a conversation with anyone near her. Her hobbies included watching birds (especially cardinals), tending to her plants, sewing and crafting, playing cards with friends and family, and snacking on chocolate. She was very proud of her family and loved time spent with her grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her children: John Paul Tackett (Pam), Ironton, OH; Craig Alan Tackett (Melanie), Blacksburg, SC; Amanda Elizabeth Holland (Brandon), Kings Mountain, NC; and Donna Rashel Stillions (Jared), Hallettsville, TX; grandchildren: Johnathon Tackett, Benesh Holland, Alexander Odom, Ella Holland, Adelaide Holland, Margaret Stillions and John Stillions; great-grandchild Lakelynn Odom; siblings: Sue Arnold, Dina Garland, Bonnie Lou Morton (John), Carol Ann York (Dave), and Harlan Earle Kluber (Sue); and long-time dear friend Jayne Hanley.

Barbara is preceded in death by her great-granddaughter Azreya Odom and her husband of 44 years, Clenon Tackett.

Memorial service will be held at Advent Lutheran Church on Thursday, October 22, 2026 at 11 AM with Pastor Jeffrey Ware officiating. Visitation will occur prior to the service from 10:00 to 10:45 AM.

Memorials may be made in Barbara’s memory to All Saints Lutheran Church in Charlotte or Advent Lutheran Church in Kings Mountain.

Billie Sue Hicklin

Billie Sue Hicklin, 91, of Gastonia, NC, passed away on October 12, 2026 at Terrace Ridge in Gastonia, NC. Born April 20, 1935 in Bladen County, she was the daughter of the late Robert H. Kinlaw and Ina Mae Ivey Kinlaw and was also preceded in death by her husband Rev. Robert L. "Bob" Hicklin, daughter Karen Hicklin Ward, and son-in-law Gary Ward.

Billie joined Bob in ministry and shared the responsibilities of leading congregations with him. They began serving at West Mecklenburg Baptist Church of Charlotte, and were later called to Faith Baptist Church of Kings Mountain, NC, and Drexel Memorial Baptist Church of Drexel, NC. After Bob retired from full-time ministry, the couple remained active in their communities, serving where they were called and needed. Most recently, Billie was a member at Gaston Christian Church in Gastonia.

One of Billie's many contributions to her shared ministry with Bob was as an accomplished pianist and organist. Graced with God-given talent, she performed in their churches and at many events and local eateries. Despite no formal training, she became a published artist by composing music and songs and was recognized in the music industry and related organizations. Billie's excellence in playing beautiful music was matched only by her excitement for sharing it; from local gigs to sing-a-longs with her community at Terrace Ridge, she delighted in creating joy through song.

Billie was a lifelong fan of country music and enjoyed cruise vacations. She loved and cherished her family and took pride in seeing it grow throughout her life. Memories of her love, passion, and joy will be treasured by all who knew and loved her.

David Gorden Nelson

David Gorden Nelson, 75, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on October 10, 2026 at Peak Resources Shelby in Grover, NC. Born August 15, 1951 on Fort Bragg, he was the son of the late Roy Gorden Nelson and Marie Strampe Nelson and was also preceded in death by his brother, Dale Nelson.

David loved God and served the Lord as best he could throughout his life. He was a talented musician and guitarist with an extensive catalog of original songs.

David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Teresa Shook Nelson; sons Matthew Nelson (Sherri) of Kings Mountain, Benjamin Nelson (Alexis) of Shelby, NC, and Jonathan Nelson of Kings Mountain; sister Donna Cabana (Greg) of Minnesota; grandchildren Tyler, Eric, Chloe, Allison, and Shayla Nelson; and great-grandson Ryan Nelson. He is also survived by a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 15, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. in the parlor of Harris Funeral Home.
