UUP Health Care Contract was ratified
NYSHIP Changes – Effective January 1, 2027

Just sharing information for anyone with NYSHIP Empire Plan Out-of-Network Massage Therapy or Acupuncture benefits.

Beginning January 1, 2027:

✅ Out-of-network Massage Therapy will be limited to 15 visits per calendar year.

✅ Out-of-network Acupuncture will also be limited to 15 visits per calendar year.

✅ The out-of-network deductible will remain at $1,250.

✅ The maximum reimbursement will be $125 per visit… $125 for 10 treatments to reach deductible , essentially only 5 treatments will be paid by insurance

If you or someone you know relies on these benefits please review details of your new plan. Every out of network benefits is affected by this not just Massage and Acupuncture.

Proposed NYSHIP cuts! Action needed!

An opening proposal is being share by NY state, directed specifically at United University Professions (UUP), which represents faculty and staff within the SUNY system.

Just as importantly, UUP has already stated publicly that they do not accept this proposal and intend to fight to retain access to these benefits. That matters.

What this means is that we are in an active negotiation window—and this is exactly when input can make a difference. Other unions follow what is decided with UUP and statewide NYSHIP will reduce these benefits.

Patients, if you, your friends or family are UUP members or have NYSHIP please share with your union reps the impact that massage has on you and your health. Real patient voices carry weight in these decisions. The infographic shared by our biller is a great way to get the conversation started.

Massage and Acu benefits under NYSHIP are at immediate risk of being eliminated as benefits which would be devastating to our clients, our therapists and most Massage and Wellness Centers on Long Island. Please sign this petition and share with everyone that has this insurance. Call your unions to let them know you want them to fight this. Other benefits are also impacted. The PEF union has a negotiating meeting this Monday 4/27 6-9 pm on Long Island
