I noted grief today as I was recapping my notes after a client left.
Did this client recently lose a family member, a friend, or an animal? No.
This client was going through the grief process of losing their identity. Their pain has them questioning who they are now and whether they are forever stuck in this new sense of identity they feel they’ve taken on, along with all the labels from the doctors and specialists they’ve seen.
Before this client got off my table today, they thanked me …. not for the massage, but for giving them some hope that this new “identity” they and their doctors have given them doesn’t have to define their life.
They have symptoms, and they deserve to find the root cause so they can begin feeling more like themselves again.
They thanked me for the time I spent talking with them. I sat. I listened. And I HEARD them.
And THAT is what makes massage so powerful sometimes.
The mind and body are connected. We need to feel seen and heard in order to heal.
I’m so honored that this client trusted me today to massage them and sit with them in the grief they were feeling. ❤️
Feeling so blessed to be able to meet people where they are and hold space for them.
