We always look forward to our annual car show! It is so special to hear the nostalgic stories of the residents as they walk through the cars on display. We love seeing our families and community come together to enjoy the beautiful weather ☀️ (thank you mother nature!) and delicious cookout lunch 🍔 (thank you All American culinary team!) and dance to the music 🎶 (thank you Mark Camasso!) all while supporting the Alzheimer’s Association thru raffle ticket sales 💜 (thank you Brookhaven Hospice for the chocolate basket donation!) We are grateful for the drivers who bring in their vehicles and everybody who comes to share smiles and good times together. Meaningful connection is the All American way 🇺🇸

Today is the day! Come on over for a fabulous assortment of vehicles on display, DJ music, cookout lunch, and raffles, raising money for a great cause – the Alzheimer’s Association! **All cars are pre-arranged by invitation only due to space limitations; sorry we cannot accept drive-in cars.** This notice is to bring the family over to check out the antique cars and cool rides! Today our focus was “rollerskate reminiscing” at our afternoon social. Everyone donned cat-eye glasses to get in fashion, and our soda jerks passed out fresh popcorn 🍿 and fountain drinks as we watched a short documentary on rollerskating in the 1950s. We talked about all the entertainment and past times of the decade including drive-in movies, bowling alleys, sock hops and ice skating. We love the 50’s!!

By stimulating the five senses and triggering long-term memories, friends engage in a purposeful activity using their fine motor and executive functioning skills. The special ingredient was RHUBARB and our bakers made pies to bring to our American Bandstand social this afternoon! We remembered Dick Clark introducing new music to the kids and talked about the places we would go dancing in Bobby socks and saddle shoes “back in the day”. Great memories!

Double the fun this week as we celebrate Theme Week (1950s) and Employee Appreciation Week! Residents have been working on notes of thanks to the staff that were compiled in a gratitude board and put on display in the front lobby. Our focus today was 1950s game shows! We set up our own competition stage and reenacted games of Beat the Clock, Twenty One Quiz Show, and Name that Tune - both residents and staff got in on the action! Our dedicated team also had a custom coffee bar open for a special refreshment.
