Day 7: We woke up in what may have been our most “roughing it” stop yet — but in many ways, one of the most memorable.

Our final night on the road was spent in a geodesic dome tucked into the farmland of Eastern Washington. We had blazing-fast internet… but no electricity. Heat was questionable. The bathroom was a porta-potty. And the shower? Outdoors, standing on green clover.
But the real story was the land itself.

We learned about six generations of one family who have sustained this farm since it was first homesteaded more than 130 years ago. Our host remembered running barefoot through her grandfather’s cherry orchard as a little girl — on the very ground where the dome now sits. It felt like the perfect setting for the themes that kept surfacing throughout this trip: vision, legacy, and respect.

And for the first time on the journey, we woke up in the state where Dr. Logan will begin his chiropractic career: Washington.

We were finally on the final leg home.

Of course, Parrot had other plans. 🦜
Let’s just say we started the morning wondering if we had finally pushed him too far.

From there, Day 7 becomes a chance to look back — at the unforgettable moments, the weird ones, the people and places that surprised us, and what this journey meant to each of us.

More than anything, we talk about what comes next.

Day 6: We wake up after an unforgettable night in a repurposed mountain school bus in Gallatin Gateway… only to discover that Parrot apparently still has a few unresolved issues from Yellowstone. 🦜

Let’s just say our morning gets off to a rather unusual start.

Once everyone — and everything — is accounted for, we’re back in the Odyssey and headed west across the wide-open spaces of Big Sky Country.

With a lot of road ahead of us, today’s Road Talk gives us plenty of time to wander a little.
We reflect on how B.J. and Mabel Palmer were world travelers themselves — bringing their travels home through artifacts, stories and public travelogue presentations. Maybe our little video travel log isn’t such a new chiropractic idea after all.

We also discuss some of the physical realities of hauling nearly everything Logan owns across the country in a very heavily loaded minivan. Low clearance has occasionally meant that when the road changes elevation faster than we do, we tend to “leave our mark.” Thankfully, our driving technique has improved along the way.

An unexpected roadside curiosity leads us to the Anaconda Smelter Stack, and then a whole lot of Montana windshield time gives our minds permission to wander back to earlier stops.

Logan finally answers a question Yellowstone left burning in his mind:
Has anyone ever dropped a cell phone into one of those bubbling geothermal pools?
Turns out… yes. More than you might think.

Then we travel mentally back to Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial. Inspired by the idea that “our people have heroes too,” we ask a different question:
If chiropractic had its own Mount Rushmore, which four chiropractors would you carve into the mountain?
Our answers might change as our own chiropractic journeys evolve — but it made for one of our favorite Road Talk conversations of the trip.

Eventually we arrive in Wallace, Idaho — the self-proclaimed Center of the Universe — and step back in time for a walk through its historic downtown.

Then it’s back on the road as we cross into Washington and make our way toward the farmlands outside Spokane for one more memorable overnight stay.

We’re home. And today was a first...

The Bringing Home Dr. Logan series still has two more episodes to go before the videos catch up with us… but in real life, we made it home.

And today marked a milestone in the history of Anchor Chiropractic:
Two Dr. Lamars on the floor.

After being away for a week and a half, we came back to an incredibly busy day — and I couldn’t be happier to have Dr. Logan joining me in practice.

There was something pretty special about looking across the office and realizing that the son I just drove across the country with is now working beside me as a chiropractor.

And then, at the end of a long day, something happened that has never happened before:

I got adjusted.

After 30 years of being the doctor at the end of the day… today, there was another Dr. Lamar in the building.

That felt pretty good.

Welcome home, Dr. Logan...And welcome to Team Anchor!

Day 5: Before we head into Yellowstone, we pick up where the last episode left off — after coming down out of the Big Horn Mountains and arriving in Cody, Wyoming.

Photographer Logan took full advantage of the light, capturing some of his most memorable golden-hour and nighttime photography of the trip.

Then it’s on to Yellowstone National Park, where we make our way east to west through one of the most stunning landscapes on the planet.
Along the way, we witness Old Faithful, fascinating geothermal features, and wildlife that sometimes feels almost a little too close for comfort.
And then there’s the grizzly bear story — one that may just “adjust” your perspective.

And Parrot? Let’s just say that not everyone loves Yellowstone. 🦜

Day 4: We recorded today’s Road Talk from a little higher elevation than usual — starting at the 9,666-foot crest of Powder River Pass in Wyoming’s Big Horn Mountains and talking our way down the other side.

(Let’s just say our oxygen supply may have been running a little low.)

We look back on Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial, along with the very cool Hobbit Hole Airbnb we called home last night.

And Parrot gets a little mountain air of his own. 🦜

From the Black Hills of South Dakota to the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming, the scenery on this stretch has been hard to beat.

Day 3: Today was all South Dakota — and one of those classic cross-country road-trip days.

We started at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, made our way west to Wall Drug, and then finished up with a stop at Dinosaur Park.

Lots of miles. A few wonderfully quirky roadside stops. And plenty of windshield time in between.

This was less about one major destination and more about spending an entire day crossing South Dakota together — taking in the people, places, and roadside oddities along the way.

Day 2: We spent the entire morning exploring The Fountain Head at the PSC in Davenport, Iowa — and it was incredible.

This is where so much of chiropractic history lives. We walked the grounds, took in the stories, stood where so much of the profession’s early development happened, and soaked in a place that means a lot more when you’re actually there.

For a father-son chiropractic road trip, this was not just another stop. It felt like a pilgrimage.

This just happened — but it took a lot of hard work.

Today, my eldest son officially became my colleague.

And I was honored to have the chance to walk the platform with him at Life University to mark this momentous milestone.

Mom and I — along with your sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews; cousins, aunts, uncles, grandmas and grandpas; your chiropractic family… and your girlfriend — are so proud of you, Dr. Logan.

Take the weekend off to celebrate.

Then you and I get to work.

Join us as we leave Life University in Marietta, Georgia, and hit the road for Kingston, Washington — coast to coast along the northern route — in our Bringing Home Dr. Logan video series.

Attn: We’re shutting Anchor down for the rest of this week and NEXT — but for a very good reason…

After 26 years of waiting, I’m heading to Georgia to watch my son graduate from chiropractic college!!!

This Friday, my son Logan will officially become Dr. Logan Lamar.

We’ll celebrate, and then point the car west to begin the trip home to Kingston.

Grab a virtual seat in the minivan and join us for our Father-Son Chiropractic Road Trip. Our travel-log video series will follow our trek across the country, highlighting unusual roadside stops and the people we meet along the way.
And we’ll have plenty of time for Road Talk — conversations about chiropractic history, health, what we’re seeing along the way, and some exciting possibilities for Anchor’s future.

Our first stop should come as no surprise: Davenport, Iowa — where it all started — the birthplace of chiropractic.

Bringing Home Dr. Logan starts Monday.
