Thank you to our Past President, Jane Schanberg, for writing this very important letter on the topic of domestic violence, which affects our community as it does others. Our county government must act now to make needed changes.

Our hearts and thoughts are with the family and friends of Brianna S. Wittl, who was fatally shot during a domestic dispute on September 1, 2026, at a residence on Route 213 in the Town of Esopus, New York.

Authorities arrested her fiancé, William F. Dearden, 47, and charged him with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Domestic Violence must stop, and a firm dedication to this effort must take place in our homes and communities. Ending domestic violence begins by empowering and validating victims and survivors, and holding abusers accountable.

Our thoughts are with the friends and family of Melinda “Mindy” Brugger.

Domestic Violence exists behind closed doors in EVERY community.

The most dangerous time is when a victim decides to leave.

Victims need to be assured they will get the safety and justice they deserve when they make the courageous decision to leave.

We must build a robust advocate network that is beholden ONLY to the victim.

Let's stand together and speak up for Mindy and those who feel the need to suffer in silence. You're not alone.

Local residents and government officials came out in droves yesterday to support candidate Marisa McClinton, who is running for Ulster County Legislator in Plattekill (District 12)! Marisa, who has recently been endorsed by the Ulster County Democratic Women, believes in people above politics and is driven to build a stronger, more affordable, and united Ulster County. Among the BBQ attendees and supporters were local Dems Legislator Dominick Marino, Ulster County Comptroller March Gallagher, Laura Donovan 4 Ulster and our own UCDW Member Katie Hamill! Thanks to all who turned out to support Marisa for Ulster County Legislator D. 12! 🇺🇸⭐️⭐️
