Formula One pit crews and hotel housekeepers get each other 🤝🏼

You check out at 11 a.m. Somebody else walks in at 3 p.m. In between, that same room goes from do not disturb for four days to spa vibes.

If you have ever wondered how long it takes to clean a hotel room, it's 20 to 30 minutes while somebody is still living in it, and 30 to 45 once they've checked out. That second one gets built from zero. Stripped, sanitized, restocked and put back exactly where the brand standard says it goes, down to which side of the nightstand the remote sits on.

Which leads to the better question, how many rooms a housekeeper actually cleans in a shift. Usually 12 to 16, except that number moves, because hotels don't count rooms. They count credits.

🛏️ Somebody staying another night = 1 credit
🧹 A checkout = 2 credits, the whole room from scratch
✨ A suite = always 2

Every board adds up to the same total, so nobody gets handed a corridor of suites while somebody else cruises the easy stretch. It's the pit wall calling whether this stop is tires only, or tires plus a front wing. Two completely different stops, and you staff for the one you're actually getting.

Run the math on the window and check-in at 3 p.m. stops being annoying. Eight checkouts at 30 to 45 minutes each and the four hours are gone. One person could never finish a floor in that time, which is why nothing happens in sequence: three or four housekeepers take the same floor at once, each with their own rooms, with somebody running supplies all shift so nobody burns room time hunting for towels.

That is a pit stop. Under three seconds is never a crew moving faster than everybody else. Every movement was assigned and rehearsed long before the car came down the lane.

Whatever feels effortless to walk into was planned that way long before you walked in.

Most of the damage we see on a stone counter didn't come from a spill. It came from cleaning it 🧽

Granite and quartz are the two people ask us about the most, and both are tougher than they look in some ways and softer than people expect in others.

Etching from something acidic doesn't wash off. It's a mark in the surface itself, and the fix is a stone professional with a polishing pad, which costs more than every bottle anyone was trying to avoid buying.

The cloudiness from daily wipes works the same way. It builds so slowly that by the time the counter looks flat, nobody remembers what changed.

Almost nothing else in a kitchen is that risky, which is the part people find hard to believe. Warm water, a couple of drops of dish soap and a dry cloth covers the everyday, and a pH-neutral stone cleaner covers the heavy days.

Ten years in, a counter either still looks like the day it went in or it doesn't, and a big part of that is whatever has been living under the sink 💙

Fun Fact Friday: the dirtiest thing in most offices is the chair you're sitting in right now 😅

Everyone guesses the armrests. It's the two parts nobody thinks about.

🛞 The wheels roll through everything that lands on the floor, all day, and then park under your desk.
🪑 The fabric holds dust the same way a sweater does, quietly, for years, and a quick wipe does nothing to it.

Runners up, same reason: the floor behind the printer, the vents above the desks, the back of the monitors.

Chairs get vacuumed and arms get wiped on periodic visits, and vents come before desks so the dust lands where we're going anyway 💙

Do you know what you're supposed to do with your toothbrush after you've been sick? 🪥

We clean medical and dental offices for a living, and that's one of the 3 flu myths we hear every season:

🚪 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀. The CDC says flu viruses can still make someone sick for 2 to 8 hours after landing on a surface, and on hard, non-porous things like door handles, light switches and remotes, they can hang around for 24 hours or more. When someone's sick, go over those spots once a day with an EPA-registered disinfectant, and leave the surface wet for as long as the label says. If it dries in two seconds, it didn't have time to work.

🪥 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗯𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗵 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝘂 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻. Once your body has fought off a strain, you can't re-catch it from your own brush. The real issue is the cup everyone's brushes share. The American Dental Association recommends keeping brushes apart so the heads don't touch, letting them air dry upright, and replacing them every 3 to 4 months.

🗓️ 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲. According to the CDC, people can spread flu for 5 to 7 days after they first get sick, and young kids can stay contagious even longer. Keep up with the high-touch spots for a full week, even once everyone's back on their feet.
