It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Nurse Manager, Sheila Becker.

Since Neurosensory Center of Eastern Pennsylvania opened its doors in 2007, she has been the heart of our practice. As our Nurse Manager, she poured her life into caring for our patients with extraordinary compassion, kindness, and unwavering dedication. She never saw patients as just appointments on a schedule; she treated them like family. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and genuine love for others touched countless lives, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

While our hearts are broken, we want to reassure our patients that Neurosensory Center of Eastern Pennsylvania will remain open and continue providing the same high-quality care and services you have come to expect. Dr. Becker and our dedicated team remain committed to serving our patients with the excellence and compassion that have always been the foundation of our practice.

During this difficult time, we ask that you keep Dr. Becker and our entire Neurosensory Center team in your thoughts and prayers as we grieve the loss of an incredible wife, mother, nurse, leader, and friend.

Thank you for the love, kindness, and support that so many have already shown. It has meant more to our family and staff than words can express.

๐Ÿ›ด When a Summer Fall Becomes More Than "Just a Bump"
Summer is a time for bike rides, pool days, sports camps, scooter adventures, and backyard fun. ๐Ÿšฒ๐ŸŠโšฝ๐Ÿ›ด๐Ÿคธ

Unfortunately, it's also one of the most common times of year for childhood concussions.

While many children recover within a few weeks, some continue to struggle with symptoms long after the bump, fall, or injury seems "healed."

๐Ÿšฉ Watch for lingering symptoms such as:

๐Ÿ˜ต Dizziness or balance problems
๐Ÿค• Frequent headaches
๐Ÿ‘€ Blurry or double vision
โ˜€๏ธ Light sensitivity
๐Ÿ“š Difficulty reading or concentrating
๐Ÿš— Motion sickness in the car
๐Ÿง  Brain fog or feeling "off"
๐Ÿ˜ซ Fatigue during schoolwork or screen time

What many parents don't realize is that these symptoms can be related to how the eyes and brain are working together after a concussion.

Even if a child has 20/20 eyesight, they may still have visual processing, tracking, focusing, or eye teaming difficulties that developed after the injury.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Vision therapy is designed to help retrain these skills and support the brain's recovery process.

If your child is still struggling weeks or months after a concussion, don't assume it's something they'll simply outgrow.

There may be a reason for the symptomsโ€”and there may be help available.

๐ŸŽ†๐Ÿ‘€ JULY IS EYE INJURY PREVENTION MONTH ๐Ÿ‘€๐ŸŽ†
Summer is full of fun, freedom, and family memoriesโ€”but it's also one of the busiest times of year for eye injuries.

Did you know thousands of eye injuries occur every year from activities many of us enjoy all summer long?

โš ๏ธ Common causes include:

๐ŸŽ† Fireworks
โšพ Sports and recreational activities
๐ŸŠ Pool and water-related accidents
๐Ÿšด Bike and scooter crashes
๐Ÿ€ Balls, bats, and sports equipment
๐ŸŒฟ Yard work and outdoor projects

Many eye injuries can happen in an instant and may result in temporary or permanent vision changes.

Here are a few simple ways to help protect your family's vision this summer:

โœ… Wear protective eyewear during sports and recreational activities
โœ… Keep a safe distance from fireworksโ€”even sparklers can cause serious injuries
โœ… Supervise children around pools and water play areas
โœ… Wear helmets when biking, skating, or riding scooters
โœ… Seek prompt medical attention for any eye injury or sudden vision change

๐Ÿง  What many people don't realize is that injuries involving the eyes can also impact how the brain processes visual information.

After an injury, some individuals may experience:

๐Ÿ‘€ Double vision
๐Ÿ˜ต Dizziness
๐Ÿ“š Difficulty reading
๐Ÿค• Headaches
๐Ÿšถ Balance challenges
๐Ÿ’ก Light sensitivity

If visual symptoms persist after an injury, a comprehensive neuro-optometric evaluation may help identify underlying visual processing concerns.

This July, let's make eye safety a priority so everyone can enjoy a healthy, active, and vision-friendly summer. โ˜€๏ธ

โœจ A simple eye exam changed the course of a child's life.

When this patient's family brought their 5-year-old son to Dr. Jeff Becker for his very first eye exam, they had no idea it would become one of the most important decisions they ever made.

Dr. Becker diagnosed a lazy eye (amblyopia) early, developed a treatment plan, and partnered with the family every step of the way. Through consistent vision rehabilitation and dedication at home, their son built the visual skills he needed to thrive.

Today, 33 years later, he's a university graduate and a vice president of a successful company.

Stories like this remind us why early detection matters.

Many parents assume their child would complain if something was wrong with their visionโ€”but children often don't realize they're seeing differently because it's all they've ever known. Comprehensive developmental eye exams can identify issues that may affect learning, reading, sports, confidence, and overall development long before they're obvious.

Even more exciting, today's treatment options have advanced tremendously. New technologies and evidence-based vision therapy programs offer more options than ever before for many patients with amblyopia and other visual conditions.

๐Ÿ’™ Thank you to this family for sharing their story with us.

If you have concerns about your child's visionโ€”or simply want the peace of mind that comes with a comprehensive evaluationโ€”we're here to help.

โ˜€๏ธ Summer is here... but are lingering concussion symptoms keeping you from enjoying it?

You may have recovered from the initial injury, but if you're still experiencing:

๐Ÿ“š Trouble reading
๐Ÿ›’ Dizziness in busy stores
โ˜€๏ธ Light sensitivity
๐Ÿš— Motion sickness
๐Ÿค• Headaches or eye strain
๐Ÿง  Brain fog or difficulty concentrating
..your vision system may still be struggling.

Many people don't realize that a concussion can affect how the eyes and brain work together long after the headaches have faded. These visual processing challenges can make everyday activities feel exhausting and frustrating.

The good news? You don't have to just "wait it out."

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Vision therapy helps retrain the connection between the eyes and brain, improving visual skills that may have been impacted by a concussion, TBI, or other neurological event.

Imagine enjoying:
๐Ÿ–๏ธ Family beach days
๐Ÿ“– Summer reading
๐Ÿš™ Road trips
โšพ Sporting events
๐Ÿ›๏ธ Shopping without dizziness or overwhelm

without feeling "off."

If you or someone you love is still struggling monthsโ€”or even yearsโ€”after a concussion, we're here to help.

๐Ÿ‘€ NEW TREATMENT OPTION FOR LAZY EYE ๐Ÿ‘€

We're excited to announce that Keystone NeuroSensory Center is now an official prescriber of Luminopiaยฎ!

Luminopia is an FDA-cleared treatment for amblyopia (lazy eye) that uses a VR headset and specially modified TV shows to help improve visual function. Instead of relying solely on traditional patching, Luminopia helps train the eyes and brain to work together.

Parents love that it's:
โœ… Home-based
โœ… Kid-friendly
โœ… Engaging
โœ… Designed specifically for children with amblyopia

If your child has been diagnosed with lazy eye or you're exploring treatment options, we'd love to help determine if Luminopia may be appropriate.

โšฝ๐Ÿ€โšพ Want a Competitive Edge Next Season? Is your child putting in the effort but still missing the mark in sports?

Most parents think sports performance is all about strength, speed, and practice.

But what about vision?

๐Ÿ‘€ Up to 80% of the information athletes use comes through their visual system.

Strong visual skills help athletes:
๐Ÿƒ Track moving balls and players
โšก React more quickly
๐ŸŽฏ Improve hand-eye coordination
๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Increase depth perception
๐Ÿ† Make faster, more accurate decisions

If your child struggles with catching, hitting, tracking the ball, or reacting quickly during games, Vision Therapy may help.

Summer is the ideal time to train these skills while school is out and sports schedules are often more flexible.

Imagine starting the next season with:
โœ… Better confidence
โœ… Faster reactions
โœ… Improved coordination
โœ… Stronger on-field performance

This summer, don't just train musclesโ€”train the visual system that drives performance.

๐Ÿ“š Is your child capable of more... but school just felt harder than it should have this year?

Maybe the report card wasn't what you expected.
Maybe the teacher mentioned struggles with reading, attention, comprehension, or following along in class.
Maybe homework took forever.

What many parents don't realize is that these challenges aren't always learning problemsโ€”they can be vision problems.

๐Ÿ‘€ Vision is more than seeing 20/20.

Children need strong visual skills to:
โœ… Track words across a page
โœ… Focus between near and far tasks
โœ… Maintain attention while reading
โœ… Process and understand what they see
โœ… Work efficiently without fatigue

Summer is the perfect time to start Vision Therapy!

Without the demands of homework and testing, kids can build the visual skills they need to head into the next school year with more confidence, better focus, and improved academic performance.

Don't wait until school starts again to address the struggle.

๐ŸŒŸ Give your child the tools they need for a stronger school year.
