May 14, 2026 is officially Apraxia Awareness Day in Ashtabula County, Ohio! Thank you to our Ashtabula County Commissioners, Casey R. Kozlowski, Kathryn L. Whittington, and J.P Ducro, IV, for making a proclamation to declare tomorrow as Apraxia Awareness Day. We had a group of Apraxia Stars come with their families to celebrate this proclamation.

Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder that makes it difficult for children to speak. Children with the diagnosis of apraxia of speech generally have a good understanding of language and know what they want to say. However, they have difficulty learning or carrying out the complex sequenced movements that are necessary for intelligible speech. It is a rare speech sound disorder that occurs in approximately 1 to 2 children per every 1,000 children (Shriberg, Aram, & Kwiatkowski, 1997).

Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) has a variable prognosis, but with early, intensive, and appropriate speech therapy, many children make significant progress and can achieve normal speech.

I am so grateful to have the opportunity to work with these Apraxia Warriors.
