It was a great couple of days supporting student well-being at the Kingwood High School Mental Health Wellness Fair last Thursday and Friday. Events like this create meaningful opportunities for students to explore emotions, build coping skills, and feel supported in a safe and engaging environment.
Students were able to participate in hands-on activities focused on emotional awareness, including identifying feelings, practicing stress management strategies, and learning simple ways to care for their mental health. Creating space for these conversations helps normalize mental health and encourages students to reach out when they need support.
A special thank you to the counselors who took time to connect with students and provide guidance: Jeanine Theimer, Trevor Theimer, and Jennifer Liang. Your presence made a positive impact and helped foster a culture of care and connection on campus.
We appreciate Kingwood High School for prioritizing mental health awareness and providing students with resources that support both their academic and personal growth.

Understanding Life Transitions in Later Adulthood

Life transitions are a natural part of aging — retirement, health changes, or shifts in relationships can open new chapters, but they can also bring unexpected emotional challenges. Many older adults find themselves feeling a mix of relief, loss, and uncertainty as they adapt to these changes.

At Locus Counseling Center, Jeanine works with clients to explore how these transitions affect emotional well-being. Through counseling, individuals can learn to process grief, redefine their sense of purpose, and strengthen coping strategies for this stage of life.

Therapy can be a safe place to talk through what’s changing and to rediscover meaning and peace in everyday life. 💚

Here are some ways you can support someone struggling with anxiety:

1) Listen and be patient - Let them express their feelings and thoughts without judgment.

2) Encourage self-care - Suggest activities such as exercise, meditation, or spending time in nature to reduce stress and improve mental health.

3) Offer practical help - Assist with everyday tasks, such as grocery shopping or running errands, to take some of the burden off their shoulders.

4) Be a good communicator - Encourage open and honest communication about their feelings and experiences.

5) Educate yourself - Learn about anxiety and how it affects people so you can better understand their experiences.

6) Create a safe and supportive environment - Show that you care about their well-being and are there for them.

7) Seek professional help - Suggest they talk to a Licensed Professional Counselor if their anxiety is affecting their daily life.

Remember, everyone experiences anxiety differently, and what works for one person may not work for another. The most important thing is to be there for them with kindness and understanding.

Living with anxiety can be challenging and overwhelming. It often involves persistent, excessive worry and fear about everyday situations. Anxiety can also cause emotional symptoms such as irritability, feelings of hopelessness, and a general sense of unease. Cognitive symptoms, such as negative thoughts and difficulty concentrating can interfere with daily activities, relationships, and overall quality of life.

Despite these challenges, individuals with anxiety can take steps to manage their symptoms and lead fulfilling lives with the help of counseling, medication if you choose, lifestyle changes, and support from loved ones.

5 ways to cope with anxiety:

1) Practice relaxation techniques (e.g. deep breathing, meditation)
2) Exercise regularly to improve mood and reduce stress
3) Maintain a healthy diet and get enough sleep
4) Limit alcohol and caffeine intake
5) Seek support from a counselor. You do not have to face anxiety alone
