One of the biggest reasons people put off trying hearing aids is the fear of committing to something they are not sure about.

Every patient who starts with new hearing technology at our practice has 30 days to wear them in their real life. If at the end of that time something is not working the way you need it to, we fix it. And if it is still not right, you can return them.

No pressure, no penalty, no awkward conversation. 🙅‍♀️

Something I want families to understand, because it changes everything…

👉 When your parent goes quiet at a crowded dinner table, they are not being antisocial.
👉 When they laugh along with a story they clearly didn't follow, they are not being dismissive.
👉 When they ask you to repeat yourself, they are not being annoying.
👉 When they wave you off and say they’re fine, they might actually be exhausted.

Hearing loss doesn't feel the way most people expect it to from the outside. It isn't silence. It's an effort. Constant, invisible, exhausting effort. 😣 Just trying to follow a conversation in a loud restaurant can feel like you’re running a race no one else knows is happening.

It's laughing at the right moment because you caught a word or two and made your best guess, and praying nobody asks you to weigh in.

It's slowly, quietly, starting to prefer smaller gatherings. Shorter phone calls. Fewer situations where you might get it wrong.

When you understand what your parent is actually navigating, the conversation becomes less about convincing them of something and more about letting them know you see them.

This one is worth sharing with every parent you know. 👇

Researchers found that one in eight teenagers already shows measurable signs of noise-related hearing damage before they even finish high school.

Not older adults. Not those who work in noise. Teenagers.
The culprit is almost always the same, earbuds at high volume, for long stretches, every single day. The damage is gradual, invisible, and permanent. And because it happens slowly, most kids have no idea it is happening.
As a new school year starts and the earbuds go back in, it is a good time to check in. A baseline hearing evaluation takes less than an hour and gives you a clear picture of where your child's hearing actually stands.
Early awareness always leads to better outcomes. And this is one of those things that is much easier to protect than it is to reverse.

Nobody tells you this part of being an audiologist…
I spent years in school learning about the auditory system, hearing technology, diagnostics, and rehabilitation. I came out ready to help people hear better.
What I did not expect was becoming the most well-informed person in Kirkland about where to eat, what to do, and which local spots are worth the drive. 😂
Turns out, when you sit across from hundreds of people who live in your community and actually listen to them, really listen, you learn a lot!
In the last few months alone, patients have told me about the Redmond Farmers Market, convinced me I need to check out Juel Park in Redmond, and at least three people have insisted I have not truly lived until I try Amaro Bistro in Bothell.
I love this part of my job more than I probably should. 😊

Even mild head injuries can affect hearing and balance, and symptoms are not always obvious right away. A simple tip is to pay attention to any new ringing in the ears, dizziness, or difficulty understanding speech after a hit. These can be early signs that the auditory system has been affected.

Many people know that heart health affects energy, stamina, and overall well‑being.

But fewer people realize it can also influence hearing!

Conditions like high blood pressure can reduce healthy blood flow to the inner ear, and when those delicate structures do not receive what they need, hearing can be affected over time. 🫀 It is one more reason to stay mindful of cardiovascular health and to seek support when something feels off.
