Meet Ben Cooper, Assistant Director of Individualized Supported Living (ISL) Programs within the Community Living department at Chariton Valley Association (CVA), proud partner of Center for Human Services. Ben has spent the past five years working in the human services field, serving in a variety of roles before joining the CVA team as a Professional Manager in 2024. Beginning his journey as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) while in college, Ben gained firsthand experience with both the rewards and challenges of supporting individuals with disabilities. That experience inspired him to pursue leadership roles where he could provide guidance, resources, and support for others to succeed in similar roles.
Now serving as Assistant Director, Ben oversees departmental operations, supports team members and the individuals we serve in reaching their goals, while strengthening the quality of Community Living services. One of the most rewarding aspects of his role is advocating for both his team and those we support. He believes that when employees feel heard, supported, and empowered, they can provide the highest quality of care. Having grown up with a brother with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Ben understands the challenges people with disabilities face and how advocacy can create meaningful opportunities for them to receive support and resources needed to live fulfilling lives.
Outside of work, Ben enjoys woodworking and even handcrafted a crib for his nephew, which remains his proudest project to date. Thank you, Ben, for your dedication to our organization and its mission to provide a Life Beyond Limitations! ๐๐
