🍎 Back-to-School Isn't Just About School Supplies 💙
As the new school year approaches, it's important to prepare not only backpacks, but also our children's minds and emotions.
Here are a few simple ways to support your child as they transition back to school:
🌙 Start bedtime routines early.
Begin adjusting sleep schedules 1–2 weeks before school starts to help their bodies gradually adapt to earlier mornings.
💬 Check in with their thoughts and feelings.
Ask open-ended questions like:
• "How are you feeling about school starting?"
• "What are you excited about?"
• "Is there anything you're worried about?"
❤️ Validate their emotions.
Feeling nervous, excited, or even scared about a new teacher, classroom, or school is completely normal. Let your child know their feelings make sense and that you're there to support them.
🧠 Pay attention to changes in their well-being.
Sometimes children communicate stress through behavior rather than words. Watch for changes in:
• Body: headaches, stomachaches, changes in sleep or appetite
• Mind: increased worry, irritability, sadness, or difficulty concentrating
• School & Friend Engagement: reluctance to attend school, withdrawing from friends, or losing interest in activities they usually enjoy
Remember, a little extra connection and reassurance can make a big difference during times of transition.
If you're noticing ongoing changes in your child's emotional well-being, know that you don't have to navigate it alone. Healthy Hearts & Minds is here to support children, teens, and families through every season.
💙 Wishing all students, parents, caregivers, and teachers a wonderful start to the new school year!
