Nursing school success is not about studying every waking hour—it’s about using the right strategies consistently.

These slides break down a few practical ways new nursing students can study smarter, prepare for exams, and build confidence:

• Use a mix of visual, auditory, written, and hands-on learning
• Review material within 24 hours
• Practice active recall instead of only rereading
• Complete practice questions and study the rationales
• Use priority frameworks when answering nursing exam questions
• Build small weekly habits that reduce stress and prevent cramming

You do not have to master everything at once.

Plan. Review. Practice. Reflect.

Progress over perfection—and consistency over cramming.

If you have ever worked with me, then you know I live by this combo. Perfect for the nursing student and the seasoned nurse—because some dynamic duos never get old.

Smooth-writing pens + a sturdy storage clipboard = a simple combination that keeps every shift, clinical day, and study session a little more organized.

Cute. Functional. Essential.

Randy Pausch once said in “The Last Lecture”: “Time is all you have, and you may find one day that you have less than you think.”

As nurses, we live this truth every single shift. We walk into rooms not knowing what kind of day someone is having — their best, their worst, sometimes their last. We don’t just administer meds and chart vitals. We become part of someone’s story, even if just for a few hours.

Pausch talked about “brick walls” — obstacles that exist not to stop us, but to show how badly we want something. Every long shift, every hard code, every patient we couldn’t save teaches us that. The wall isn’t the end. It’s the proof of why we’re here.

This job isn’t easy. It asks everything of you — your hands, your heart, your patience, your time. But it also gives you a front-row seat to human resilience, courage, and grace.

So today, I’m grateful. Grateful for the privilege of showing up for people on their hardest days. Grateful for this profession that teaches me more about life than almost anything else.
