Weekly Wednesday Client Story:
SCHAS caregiver Nancy arrived for her scheduled visit with client Timothy W. and found him on the ground near his patio. He was conscious and able to talk, telling Nancy that he had tripped and fallen but was unable to get back up. His left leg was hurting, and he could not move it.
Nancy immediately asked if she should call 911. Mr. W. remembered that he had his medical alert button and activated it to call for help. Nancy stayed by his side, providing comfort and reassurance until the ambulance arrived and transported him to the hospital. We later learned that Mr. W. had broken his leg.
Not all of our client stories are warm and fuzzy. The reality is that our caregivers sometimes walk into unexpected situations where their presence can make all the difference.
For Mr. W., Nancy was there when he needed someone most—not only to make sure help was on the way, but to ensure he wasn't alone while waiting for it.
This is caregiving. This is why having support at home matters.
