In this video, I’m testing several visual skills that are essential for learning:
➡️ Horizontal, vertical, and diagonal saccades (quick eye jumps between targets)
➡️ Convergence (bringing the eyes together to focus up close)
➡️ Smooth pursuit tracking (following a moving target)
These skills are critical for reading, copying from the board, tracking words across a page, shifting attention between assignments, and maintaining visual focus throughout the school day.
When these eye movements aren’t working efficiently, children may lose their place while reading, skip words or lines, read slowly, complain that their eyes get tired, or appear distracted and inattentive in the classroom.
These visual skills can be assessed and, in many cases, improved with the right support.
