PRK has a reputation for being the slower option, and we are not going to talk around it. Surface healing takes longer than LASIK. Vision can be blurry and shifting for several days, and it may keep sharpening for weeks after that. That is the honest version, and you should hear it from us before you hear it anywhere else.
Here is why patients still choose it. PRK creates no corneal flap. For someone whose corneas run thinner, or who spends real time in contact sports, in the water, or in a job where a flap is worth thinking about, that structural difference outweighs a slower start.
The timeline is also something you can plan around. Late summer into fall, with lake season winding down, is an easier window than the middle of June. We would rather you go in knowing exactly what the first two weeks feel like than be surprised by them. If PRK came up in a consultation a while back and you set it aside, you can start that conversation again at (865) 588-3937.
