Kodiak Island Emergency Management, keeping the archipelago safe, prepared, and resilient by partnering with local agencies and organizations to protect lives and property. Level 2 – Indicates a heightened sense of awareness. Occurring or forecasted events include a potential or present threat. Level 3 – indicates an actual event occurred or may be imminent. Examples, flooding disrupting transport

ation, extended search and rescue requiring inter-agency support, wildland fire requiring evacuation of shelter, raised Homeland Security threat
Level 4 – Indicates response to a major life threatening and/or property damaging event. Examples, flooding, sea storm surge, tsunami displaces residents and damages structures, wildland fire requires evacuation and sheltering of citizens, damaging earthquake.

Alaska Department of Fish & Game recommends the following tips when in bear country:
•Always carry a deterrent, including bear spray and fi****ms.
•Travel in groups and stay together on trails.
•Make noise so you don't surprise a bear. Stay alert and look for signs of bears.
•Never approach or crowd bears; respect their "personal space."
•Keep pets on leash when possible to avoid unwanted wildlife interactions.
