Kodiak Area Native Association - KANA

Kodiak Area Native Association - KANA To Elevate the Quality of Life of the People We Serve The primary focus of the organization is meeting the expressed needs of our beneficiaries.

The Kodiak Area Native Association was formed in 1966 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation providing health and social services for the Alaska Natives of the Koniag region. KANA provides these services on behalf of the United States Government through compacts with the Indian Health Service (IHS) and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), in each case pursuant to the Indian Self-Determination and Educa

tion Assistance Act of 1975 (the ISDEAA). KANA’s service area includes the City of Kodiak and 6 remote Alaska Native villages: Akhiok, Karluk, Larsen Bay, Old Harbor, Ouzinkie and Port Lions and encompasses 10 federally recognized Tribes of Kodiak Island. From the date of incorporation, KANA has been governed by a Board of Directors with varying representation from each of the villages, including one representative for the “at large” Native population on Kodiak Island. Services provided by KANA include, but are not limited to: Ambulatory Medical Clinic, Dental Clinic, Pharmacy, Community Health Aide Program, Substance Abuse Prevention, Intervention and Outreach, Social Services, Mental Health, and Youth Prevention Projects. Other services, provided by State of Alaska and other funding sources, include but are not limited to: Vocational Rehabilitation, Employment and Training, Childcare and Education Assistance Services, Economic Development, Public Safety, Elder Support Programs, Emergency Medical Services, WIC Nutrition Services, and Infant Learning.

It was a 60th birthday bash to remember at the annual KANA company picnic last Friday! 🎂

KANA staff and their families from the Kodiak Archipelago, Anchorage, and the Lower 48 came together in person and in spirit to celebrate another wonderful year of elevating the quality of life of the people we serve.

Congratulations to our rock paper scissors tournament winners and tug of war champions, and quyanaa to all who celebrated with us. 🎉
