After years of spine issues and previous surgeries, Marcia developed severe, debilitating back pain that left her unable to enjoy the active lifestyle she loved. After seeing multiple physicians, she was referred to Dr. Dan Robinson, who identified two complex spinal conditions causing her symptoms.

Dr. Robinson performed surgery to stabilize her spine and relieve nerve pressure. Following the surgery, Marcia experienced immediate pain relief and quickly began rebuilding her active lifestyle. Today, she’s walking, cycling, working, and enjoying life again.

CSRS seeks North American board-eligible or board-certified orthopedic or neurosurgical attending physicians no more than five years into their practice, and neurosurgical physicians in training (PGY‑6/7 or neurosurgical fellowship) to apply for the highly sought-after CSRS Emerging Leaders Course, April 22-24, 2027, in Carmel, Indiana. This course will have an emphasis on advanced cervical spine topics and techniques and include hands-on labs working one-on-one with cervical spine experts. In addition, it will create an open participant-driven education platform to facilitate honest, “real-life” conversations between attendees and faculty. Accepted participants will receive a travel grant to attend the course. Applications are open September 15 - October 15, 2026.

We’re proud to highlight Dr. Michael H. McCarthy, who recently served as invited faculty for the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery (ISASS) webinar, “Cervical Disc Arthroplasty: Algorithms for Decision Making.”

With advanced fellowship training and research experience in cervical disc arthroplasty, Dr. McCarthy brings a patient-centered, evidence-based approach to evaluating treatment options. For some patients with cervical disc problems, cervical disc arthroplasty (disc replacement) can be an alternative to traditional spinal fusion. But determining who is a good candidate requires careful evaluation of your symptoms, anatomy, spinal health, and the condition of the affected discs.
