You’ll have to excuse the poor lighting in the barn for the next…5 months? 😂

We live on the dark side of the hill, and since days are getting shorter that means BOTH milkings are done in the dark.

We’re working hard to bring you fresh goat milk year round. Lots of other herds dry up in the fall and have no milk until the does kid again in the spring, but we are milking through the cold, the rain, and the snow to make sure you have a steady supply always.

Check the shelves at Grangeville, Kooskia, and Kamiah Cloninger’s. Steelhead Market in Stites is still stocked up as well.

Kooskia and Kamiah are getting milk, kefir (plain and blueberry), and cheese.

Grangeville is getting milk and blueberry kefir. They’re taking a break from cheese at the moment so if you’re in Grangeville and you’ve been missing it, be sure to let them know you want to see it on the shelf again!

These are the same size as the previous ones, just a slightly different shape and clear instead of opaque.

Because they’re clear, separation may be more noticeable. Kefir is a naturally fermented drink and seeing some whey in the bottle is normal!

Just roll gently before enjoying.

We harvested the winter squash from the garden today and the goats got the ones that were soft or too green for us to use.

It’s a great treat for them, and as an added bonus there’s evidence that squash seeds are effective against some internal parasites!

This is just one of the ways we use holistic methods to manage our herd, bringing you the healthiest goat milk possible

‘But I’m not a milk drinker’

Fun fact: neither were we until we got goats.

Mason and I were actually vegan when we moved to our homestead. When we got our first milk goat, the pint a day of milk she provided was more than we knew what to do with.

Raw goat milk has added so much to our lives since then.

Mason is no longer lactose intolerant.

I’ve relied on milk for nutrition heavily during pregnancies where nothing else sounded good. It gave me enough energy to keep going, even when there was still a farm to run and other little kids to take care of.

It’s been an amazing supplement for all of our kiddos when they were weaning. It took the stress away because we didn’t have to wonder if they were still getting enough.

Raw goat milk is an amazing health food, packed with nutrients and oh so convenient - and ours tastes absolutely delicious.

Once it’s been a part of your life, it’s hard to live without it.

And if you REALLY just aren’t a milk drinker, there’s always cheese 😉

It’s a cool drizzly morning

Everything was a little slower during morning milking.

I didn’t want to be outside, the goats didn’t want to be outside, but we persevered through the rain and mud 😅

Day in the life:

Mason left for work around 6am. This morning I had milking coverage, so I got to spend a slower morning with the family than when milking falls to me.

Most of today was order prep for our deliveries to Lewiston, Moscow, and Coeur d’Alene tomorrow.

It was a whirlwind day trying to get all the cheese and kefir packaged while juggling kids that needed extra attention today.

Ran to the post office to send milk samples to the lab for our monthly analysis. Had a couple minute break to knit in the car before I met a friend who had a bag of new feed for us to try.

This afternoon was more cheese and kefir. Mason got home and got to work getting ready to bring home another load of hay after work tomorrow.

Now we’re getting ready for dinner, but there’s still garlic and chive cheese to package before bed tonight.

Tomorrow will start with milking at 5am, orders out the door around 9, and hopefully a slower day ☀️
