Aloha! Fascia and stretching

The problem: Someone feels chronically tight, so they stretch — a minute here, a minute there, usually on the day it bothers them. Weeks later, nothing has changed, and they conclude they’re “just a tight person.”

The correction: Fascia — the continuous connective tissue web wrapping every muscle — remodels based on consistent input, not occasional input. It adapted to years of held positions and repeated movements; it will not un-adapt from sixty seconds of stretching once a week. What changes tissue: regular input over weeks — frequent movement breaks, daily mobility work, varied positions throughout the day. The comparison to keep in mind: the tightness was built through thousands of hours of repetition. Reversing it doesn’t take equal time, but it does take the same ingredient — consistency.

Aloha! Here is a perfect problem we experience: Knots-issue with our tissues

The PROBLEM: A knot appears, and the common response is to wait it out — assuming that, like a bruise, it will resolve on its own. Three weeks later it’s still there.

The CORRECTION: A knot is a band of muscle fibers stuck in contraction, and it’s self-sustaining: the contraction squeezes off local blood flow, less oxygen reaches the tissue, and low oxygen keeps the contraction going. Waiting doesn’t break that loop, because time isn’t what the tissue is missing — input is. What breaks the loop: direct pressure held long enough for the tissue to soften, movement of the area through its range, and anything that restores circulation, including heat and light activity. A knot needs interruption, not patience.
