On Monday, Baraga County Memorial Hospital was honored to host a dedication of a memorial plaque recognizing the life and legacy of Dr. Peter Carmody.
Dr. Carmody devoted 35 years of service to BCMH before retiring in 2006. Throughout his career, he touched countless lives through his commitment to his patients, colleagues, and the community. Following his passing in August 2024, we felt it was important to create a lasting tribute to honor his contributions and the impact he made on our hospital.
We were grateful to welcome Dr. Carmody's four children, grandchildren, former employees, friends, and current BCMH staff members for the dedication ceremony. Several individuals shared stories and memories that reflected the physician, mentor, and leader he was. Dr. Carmody was known for holding high expectations and demanding excellence from those around him. While he could be tough, many of the nurses and healthcare professionals he mentored shared that they would not be the caregivers they are today without his guidance, teaching, and unwavering standards.
The memorial plaque now hangs in the main hallway at BCMH, serving as a reminder of Dr. Carmody's many years of service and the lasting impact he had on our hospital and community.
Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate and remember a physician, colleague, mentor, and friend whose legacy will continue to be a part of BCMH for years to come.
