In this video, our Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, Skyller Tritch, shares great insights and information on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) as well as some evidence-based ways of treating those symptoms.
Skyller works with teens, adults, young adults, older adults, families and couples with a range of diagnoses and presenting symptoms. One of the recurring symptoms Skyller works with is OCD, and she likes to use different approaches to treat this condition based on the client's needs.
OCD symptoms can include obsessions and/or compulsions and are considered time-consuming thoughts and behaviors that cause a lot of distress, and get in the way of someone functioning or making progress.
We treat OCD through different approaches including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) to try to reduce these symptoms, challenge unhelpful thought processes, and develop new associations with these behaviors.
