We're nearly halfway through this Fire Horse year, and I am *feeling* it (HBU?). Big energy, galloping momentum, a sense that things are moving and changing in meaningful (and sometimes unpredictable) ways.

Probably not coincidentally, I intentionally scaled back this summer, and it's been really lovely! In the past, slowing down has always been a necessary accommodation. This is the first time it's felt like a possibility I sensed and then opted to claim. Slow, full, easy summer vibes. More time with my kids, more mornings that don't start in a hurry. Like an unfurling.

The slower pace has given me room to reflect more deeply about my values, about our community, about my role and where the practice is going. I'm tending the fire rather than getting swept up in it. Like I often arrive at with clients: We can let the wild horses run.

But I'm not going anywhere! 🐴

Still here, still seeing clients, still grateful for this work. If you've been sitting with the idea of reaching out, I’d love to hear from you!

Grateful for the kind words. My clients rock.

10,000 of our neighbors are not getting their monthly food budget due to the federal government shut down and refusal to disperse emergency funds available.

Our community has more than enough money and food needed to feed everyone--those resources are just unevenly distributed. If our government won't do it, we will.

I'm thankful for everyone stepping up over the past month to prepare with mutual aid for the people of La Crosse County. We've adopted the Little Free Pantry outside of Hamilton/SOTA I and are grateful to the many families working together to make it a viable resource to anyone in need of food.

Gift cards to grocery stores are invaluable for people with special dietary needs and to respect everyone's autonomy.

Gift cards and any food donations can be dropped off at the Hamilton/SOTA I office on weekdays 7:30-3:00.

Take what you need, share what you can. Love and solidarity.

Truth telling can be painful, but to my body it also feels like such a relief. It feels like a blessing to acknowledge and celebrate the people who have stewarded this land long before I arrived. To acknowledge and condemn the violence that made way for my life and settlement here.

And this is more than one day. It’s a commitment to curiosity and humility. It’s a long process of healing. It’s okay to not know what to do, to have complicated feelings. It really helps to do it in community with other people.

If you’re in the La Crosse area, this is a great resource I’ve been working through with my family:

If you’re elsewhere, ask your local public library to help connect you with resources.

I hope you have a happy Indigenous People's Day!

Many approaches to mental health and trauma begin and end with teaching skills to cope or manage.

Others simply neutralize the trauma response in the body.

Trauma processing here goes beyond accommodating and neutralizing the painful trauma response or “symptoms” you experience (helpful stuff, really!) but also–

✨Directly showing your nervous system its ability to toggle between dysregulation and safety
✨Relearning the experience of safety in your body
✨Rescripting core origin stories
✨Empowering yourself to discover your unique inner resources
✨Reconnecting with parts of your nervous system, your soul, and/or your widest self (call it whatever you want or don't call it anything at all -- you'll just feel it!)
✨Feeling the genuine relief of remembering your wholeness

If this feels like an approach you’re drawn to, I’d love to find time to chat.

You’re welcome to schedule a free phone call at conscious-practice.com (link's in my bio) if you have questions or want to connect!

We are learning:
Your pain is not pathological.

We are learning:
How to be firm on your needs, flexible on your strategies.

We are learning:
How to attend to our feelings, not attack them.

We are learning:
How to be responsible, not burdened.

We are learning:
How to be yourself so that the people looking for you can find you.

7 years ago, I was completely immersed in the wilderness of birth & postpartum for the first time. In those hazy, disorienting, euphoric & intensely challenging hours, days, & weeks as a mother with my first baby, both of us were brand new to the world around us.

It was in those tender first moments after giving birth and meeting my daughter–her unique precious Being so blissfully familiar & so deeply distinct–that I realized with more embodied material truth than I ever thought possible, that I too was indeed ALIVE, & this was indeed my one precious life. And that this gift of life meant that I had the gift of time to fill my life with what I feel in my bones is right & good & mine to experience and offer.

From a practical perspective, I had a job at the time, & a pretty dang good one honestly. I had a supervisor & small team of colleagues I liked & respected.

And yet in my work life, I felt chronically alone. I felt misunderstood & misperceived because of the limitations of what “healthcare” means in our society, as well as the “NP” persona so trapped & exploited in the deflated narcissist role in medical systems. I believed I was doing fine, even good work, that my patients & coworkers appreciated.

At the same time I was constantly exhausted from masking & dimming who I was. I realized there was a yearning and a call for my life to create more & hide less. And while leaving the mainstream healthcare system & starting my own offbeat practice was a dream of mine, it was always “maybe someday…”

I realized, as I had realized giving birth, that the only person who can do this is me. No one else is coming to make it happen. “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.” This was my timeline. And without any roadmap or net below me, I decided to leap.

Most people would not have done this 😅 & I don’t blame them. This path has never been easy. I am continually learning valuable lessons I wish I already knew.

And yet there is complete clarity that this is the path for me. It is mine, & it intersects with so many. I am grateful to each person led them to my door over the past 7 years. I trust there is still so much we will learn & heal together.
