I was feeling a lot of disappointment today but it was a busy morning and didn’t have time to process through it. So, I did what I’ve always done-declared I’m in a bad mood, had really negative thoughts, used social media as a way to zone out (and make me feel worse) and just crab around.
Once I had a moment though, I sat with what I was feeling. I cried. I made guttural noises. I moved my body in the way it needed to move to feel my emotions. And then I ended with rocking and hugging myself because that’s what my body said I needed.
It didn’t take the reason I was disappointed away, but it changed how I showed up the rest of the day. Because the emotions were there, regardless of if I dealt with them intentionally or not. They were driving my thoughts and behavior for the entire morning. But once I sat with them and felt them and let them move on, then I got to decide how I was going to show up.
That is the power of listening to our bodies and feeling our feelings. It gives us choice and a little more control over our responses, behaviors and choices. That’s the magic ✨
