Real love has always lived in the small stuff. In the porch light left on. In the wave from the driveway until the car disappears. In the pot of coffee already made when someone stumbles into the kitchen.

These are the rituals we grew up watching without ever calling them anything special. They were just how our people loved us.

Somewhere along the way, we started calling them old-fashioned. Then we stopped doing them.

Bring one back this week. It doesn't have to be big. That's the whole point.

There's actually a name for it. It's called the Production Effect. Speaking out loud activates deeper memory encoding in the brain than silent thought.

That's why the toast we gave sticks with us more than the one we planned. Why our loved ones' voices echo through our memory like nothing else can. Why saying their name out loud, even years later, brings them so close.

Grief has quiet rituals. Speaking your loved one's name is one of the most powerful. Say it in the car. At their grave. While you cook their favorite meal.

Say it out loud. The science and the heart both agree.
